Indonesia
Our elder Muslim brother, most, if not all, our indigenous culture and cuisine were based on their culture, albeit, modified, nonetheless, you might call our culture as a bastard culture due to us burrowing ideas from our brother, they’re an anomaly to us so to speak, most Muslims are pretty zealous when it comes to their belief (reference: Murica going gun blazing on the Middle East and terror attacks across the western hemisphere). I say anomaly because Muslims there don’t really take their beliefs all too seriously, like how we Christians don’t tend to take it all seriously
Their national flag is an oddity to us Filipinos, we tend to get confuse if it’s Poland, Monaco, or Indonesia, heck, if you show us a Poland flag, we Filipinos might argue which is which, we will flip it over and over just to see who is right
Indonesia is large and has the most powerful military among the Malay brothers, nowadays, we are pressuring Indonesia to let us buy their military technology while Indonesia is playing hard to get, that’s why we have to flatter them first if we want to buy them, they have a legendary maritime border, we might take pride on our nation as an archipelago, then we are reminded that there’s also Indonesia…. This guys are pretty patriotic to their country which is kind of hilarious as although we too are one, we pale in comparison to Indonesia
Indonesia is on its way to be a regional power, but for us Filipinos, they don’t look like it, probably because of their care free nature, they are a happy go lucky nation who seems to be content where they are, only time will tell what Indonesia will do if they have a taste of power….

印度尼西亚很大，在马来系兄弟中拥有最强大的军队，现今我们正在向印度尼西亚施加压力让我们购买他们的军事技术，但是印尼技术好难获取，如果我们想买到我们必须先奉承他们。他们的海上边界超传奇的，作为一个群岛组成的国家，我们可能会为我们的国家感到自豪，然后就被提醒，还有印度尼西亚呢....那些家伙可是相当爱国啊，跟他们一比我们的爱国情怀就不够看了
印度尼西亚正在成为一个区域性强国，但对于我们菲律宾人来说，目前看起来并不像，可能是因为他们无忧无虑的本性，他们是一个随遇而安的民族，似乎在哪都能满足。如果印尼尝到了权利的滋味会做些什么，只有时间才能证明了......

Malaysia
Also our Muslim brother, Malaysia’s culture is similar to that of Indonesia, there’s hardly any modification that was done, heck, we Filipinos would have a hard time discerning the two, we don’t hear a lot about Malaysia, probably because Malaysia is a workaholic, Malaysia is pretty serious and focused, religiously speaking, they are very zealous to the point where it freaks us Filipinos out, they work, pray, sleep, then start the cycle again, but it is all not in vain, out of the Malay brothers, Malaysia is the most developed, only Malaysia has a signature structure in its post card: The Petronas Tower, trust me, you get sick of seeing it as Malaysia loves to put it in every commercial and post cards
Malaysia is obsessed with beauty, I think they have a vanity problem or an OCD, from airports, malls, apartments, hotels, temples, to gardens, it has to be appealing at all times, everything has to be pretty, the Philippines and Indonesia could hardly care less as we’re too practical for all those fancy-shmancy stuff
Malaysia has a unique geography as they split themselves into two countries, the west and the east, we sometimes wonder if they are planning to make a mega project that connects the two via bridge, I mean, Malaysia certainly has the money, so why not?
Malaysia doesn’t like Indonesia that much and vice versa, we Filipinos don’t know why… It will remain as a mystery to us

马来西亚



我们的穆斯林兄弟，马来西亚的文化与印度尼西亚的文化很相似，几乎没有任何改动，见鬼了，我们菲律宾人很难辨别这两个国家。我们没听说多少马来西亚相关的，可能是因为马来西亚是一个工作狂吧。马来西亚非常认真和专注，老实说，他们太有热情了以至于都把我们菲律宾人吓到了。他们工作，祈祷，睡觉，循环往复。但这一切都不是徒劳的，在马来体系兄弟里，马来西亚是最发达的。马来西亚的明信片里有一个特征建筑物：彼得罗纳斯双塔大厦（国际石油大厦），相信我，你会看它看到厌烦，因为马来西亚喜欢把它放在每个广告里和每一张明信片上。

马来西亚对美很迷恋，我觉得他们有点虚荣或有强迫症，从机场，商场，公寓，酒店，寺庙到花园，都要造得吸引人，一切都必须漂亮。菲律宾和印度尼西亚对所有那些花哨的东西都不在意，因为我们在乎的是实用

马来西亚有一个独特的地理现象，因为他们分裂成两个国家，西马和东马，我们有时怀疑他们是不是计划进行一个巨大的过程，通过桥梁把这两块连接起来，我的意思是，马来西亚那么有钱，为什么不会呢？ ？
马来西亚不太喜欢印度尼西亚，反之亦然，我们菲律宾人也不知道为什么......这对我们来说仍然是一个谜

Brunei
Also our Muslim brother, remember when I said that we don’t hear a lot about Malaysia? Screw that, this guy right here is so quiet that we Filipinos always forget that Brunei exist, we don’t get to hear from them, at all. Heck, we don’t even know what they do for a living, what they are like, what things they love or hate, and what they want to aspire. Brunei is that one relative that you don’t know, but when there is a family gathering, you be like: “Who the fuck are you?”
But what we Filipinos do know is that they are filthy rich, rich in oil to be exact, they reside close to us, yet they hardly make any sound, their nation is called a kingdom which is actually cool, they are a monarchy who loves to look nice, their nation is small but efficient
Remember when I said that Indonesia is the less religious and Malaysia is more religious? Well even though this guy is quiet, Brunei is nuts! They’re pretty zealous to Islam, heck, it’s due to their Imams that brainwashed some stupid people into thinking that being a terrorist is great, meet the Abu Sayyaf, a terrorist cell located in between the Philippines and Sabah (Malaysia) who thinks that they’re the good guys, yeah, way the go Brunei
Never trust people who are too quiet

也是我们的穆斯林兄弟，还记得我上面说我们没听说多少马来西亚相关的事吗？这个也一样，这家伙很安静，我们菲律宾人总是忘记文莱的存在，我们根本就听不到它的动静。哎呀，我们甚至不知道他们做什么营生，他们是什么样的，他们喜欢或讨厌的东西，以及他们追求的东西。文莱是一个你不认识的亲戚，就像是当有一个家庭聚会时，你会这样反应：“你他妈的是谁？”

不过我们菲律宾人所知道的是，他们满身铜臭，石油丰富，确切地说，他们住在我们附近，却几乎没有任何声音，他们的国家被称为王国，超酷的，他们是一个君主制国家，人们爱美，国家虽小但效率高

Vietnam
Amazingly, Vietnam is the only communist nation we are friendly to, Murica has brainwashed us that all commies are evil, but that’s hardly the case for Vietnam, you see, since the Philippines was indirectly involved with the Vietnam war, we know a lot, we know that Vietnam was misunderstood, manipulated, and abused
We have a lot of similarities with Vietnam, our dreams, passion, problems, and taste, what we do have really in common is finding out who we are, we have this identity problem, Vietnam doesn’t want to be labeled Chinese, so, Vietnam tries to really modify their culture, same for us who wants to regain our Malay heritage but the Spaniards, Americans, and the Japanese destroyed our relics and history, we have to work with what we have, we sympathize with Vietnam
Their geography is weird, it’s so thin, we always wonder how they make it work, sure, trains have an easier time, but in a map, it just looks so weird

越南



令人惊讶的是，越南是我们唯一一个共产主义友好国家，穆里卡给我们洗过脑，所有的共产主义都是邪恶的，但你知道的，越南的情况并非如此。因为菲律宾间接参与了越南战争，所以我们知道很多，我们知道越南被误解，操纵和侮辱了。

我们与越南有很多相似之处，我们的梦想、激情、问题和品味，我们有个共同点是，存在别人经常认不出我们是哪国人这个身份问题，越南人不想被贴上中国人标签，所以越南试图真正改变他们的文化。同样，我们想要的是重新恢复马来传统文化，西班牙人，美国人和日本人摧毁了我们的遗迹和历史，我们必须与和有一样问题的国家合作，我们同情越南
越南的地理很奇怪，它太薄了，我们总是想知道这怎么行得通，当然，有火车很简单，但在地图上，它看起来真的很奇怪

Thailand
That one guy we secretly aspire to be someday, let’s face it, our culture doesn’t make any sense, our foods are themed around peasant culture, our history is forgotten, and our government is not as impressive as theirs (having a living King does make you feel like a special snowflake) plus, they now have a weird building called the Mahanakhon that literally looks like a failed attempt to pirate a file that happens to got corrupted
They like smiling and laughing, which, if you look at a different perspective, you might mistaken them to be insane. They are also very flamboyant, all their buildings are so… shiny, they love to show off, also, there are also a lot of pretty gay people
Their geography allows them to be connected to 3 countries, we also got some juicy gossip that they are secretly trying to ruin Singapore by building the Thai Canal, making the Strait of Malacca obsolete in the future

泰国



我们暗中渴望成为像泰国那样，让我们面对现实吧，我们的文化没有任何意义，我们的饮食是以农民文化为主题，我们的历史已经被遗忘，我们的政府没有他们的政府那么令人印象深刻（有活着的国王，确实让你感觉像是一种特殊的存在）。还有，他们现在有一座奇特的建筑叫做大京都大厦，它看起来像是一个失败的作品，像被弄坏了一样。

泰国人喜欢微笑和大笑，如果从不同的文化视角去看，你可能会误以为他们疯了。他们也非常追求华丽，所有的建筑都是如此......闪闪发光，喜欢炫耀。泰国还有很多漂亮的同性恋者

Singapore
Singapore is that rich, spoiled guy who loves flaunting his wealth and showing it online to not only make himself feel good, but to make others feel bad about themselves, they have a superiority complex as they believe that they are better than the rest of us just because they are wealthy
Singapore tends to wonder why a lot of their neigbhors don’t like them…
Their geography is very tiny to the point that you can hardly see it in a map, as for some, they don’t consider Singapore as a real country, but more like a conglomerate of companies guise as a nation centered around a single city

新加坡



新加坡是一个富有的，被宠坏了的家伙，喜欢炫耀自己的财富并在网上张扬，这样做不仅让他自己感觉良好，还让别人看他不爽。他们有一种优越感，相信自己比我们其他人更好，只因为他们很有钱
新加坡人很想知道为什么他们的很多邻居都不喜欢他们......
他们的国土面积非常小，以至于你很难在地图中看到它。有些人认为新加坡不是一个真正的国家，更像是一个集团，集团公司以这个城市为中心伪装成了一个国家

Singapore - my home. Supposedly the Switzerland of Asia. It’s not, really. In my opinion, very blessed to grow up here. Not a perfect country but we learn everyday.

Malaysia - our neighbour. My mum’s country of origin. A lot of Malaysians work in Singapore. Like Singapore but majority are Malays instead of Chinese - Singapore has 70% Chinese ethnic population.

Indonesia - A country with many islands. With regards to their coins, feels kind of light. Their famous taxis are called Blue Birds. Aussies love Bali most. Traffic can be a killer in the capital. I like Indonesian food the most because of variety and also they seem to be open 24 hours.

Timor-Leste - I’ve lived and worked there. Population smaller than Singapore. Size of country bigger than Singapore. A lot of democracy. more than 20 political parties when i was there. Religiously devoted country

Myanmar - Temples. Nobel Prize Winner. I haven’t been there yet

Philippines - Casinos.  Likely one of the other SEA country that speaks English quite well. Public smoking ban (i was there recently). Traffic also congested. I feel of all the countries, their language Tagalog would be easiest to pick up.

Cambodia - Been there one time, just Phnom Penh. Felt a bit crowded. Almost got a job there once. People are friendly, they smile a lot.

Laos - Not been there before. I honestly know nothing about Laos. Hoping to visit them soon

Vietnam - Crowded with motorcycles. Close your eyes whilst crossing the road. Plenty of French influence (more than Cambodia in my opinion). People seem very hardworking.

Thailand - currently reside and work here. Traffic jams aplenty. Notable number of women who are men. To be fair i see this in Philippines too. A temple every 500 metres (in Bangkok it seems)

Brunei - Rich country, no taxes. Strict country. i’ve also not been there.

I can attempt an answer from a Cambodian perspective, since I lived there for a while and my wife is from there.

Many Cambodian people distrust Vietnam. Mainly they distrust the government but this can easily spill over and be manipulated into distrust of Vietnamese people, in the same way that xenophobia can be whipped up everywhere.
The reason for this is that many people believe that Vietnam is exploiting Cambodia, with the collusion of the corrupt Cambodian government, going back to the post-Pol Pot occupation of the 1980s. There does seem to be a lot of truth to this.
The recent border dispute between the two countries has exacerbated the nationalistic tensions.
Moving on. Similar tensions exist with Thailand, with occasional border skirmishes and polemic rhetoric. However, these seem to be steadily becoming things of the past. Many poor Cambodian people look to Thailand for work opportunities, and the middle classes love to take vacations there.
A lot of people seem to be wary of Malaysia, since many Cambodian women previously went there as maids or wives and were sometimes abused or even murdered.
Many people seem to look at Singapore as a kind of glittering paradise, out of reach for most.
As far as I can tell, people seem to have no strong feelings about the other SEA nations.

From my perspective as a Thai:
Vietnam: Our rival. We complete with Vietnam in many ways from sport to everything we can think of
Laos: Our brother with some family issues
Cambodia: Our neighbor who always try to take advantage of us
Malaysia: Our neighbor  
Brunei: A friend of friends
Indonesia: A friend who can be trusted
Philippines: A friend of friends who always gossips about us.
Singapore: A good and rich friend
Myanmar: An enemy of our great grandparents, but now a friend with benefits

尽可能简单来说
印度尼西亚：骚乱或罢工。
马来西亚：没什么可说的，因为这里有一半人是马来人或前马来人。
