It's scary that they're able to do that and I don't agree with naming people.
But if it was just taking a photo without detecting who it was I'd be all for it. China really needs to crackdown hard on jaywalkers. Every time I'm driving a car / riding a motorbike / ebike it seems like there's an endless stream of people that want to commit suicide under my wheels.

[crackdown hard on jaywalkers.]
Why doesn't the police do their job? My theory is that for the police and courts to start working properly all kinds of changes would need to take place in the politics of China. Rule of law and communism can't seem to be able coexist.

To be honest the general lack of the rule of law is kinda refreshing in China. I just wish the police would focus on dealing with things that are unsafe like jaywalkers.

As a driver myself I'd like to propose capital punishment for people who don't indicate. T-intersections are the worst and I have 3 leading up to our building that I can't avoid. Having to make a full stop and wait just because a fucking asshat selfish moron I hope gets cancer and dies a slow painfull death can't be bothered to spend 0.1 second flicking on the light. There's been at least a dozen crashes that I know of in my area because of this sort of bendanity since we moved in and that's just what I've seen with my own eyes. If I had to guess there must have been at least a hundred and NOBODY learns and the idiot baoan/wuguan can't even be bothered to put up a sign or two reminding people. OK rant over. You were saying?

The worst thing I think in China is the ability to turn right on a red light. After coming to China I was told that this is normal in most countries (my home country doesn't have it). But I don't think China can be trusted with it.
When I'm cruising along on my motorbike at 40mph I shouldn't have to be constantly on the lookout for cars trying to kill me by merging into my lane when my light is green.
I have to treat intersections in China like death can come at me from any angle and that just isn't how intersections are supposed to work.
TheRarebitFiend 4 points·1 day ago
In other countries you’re required to treat right on red like a stop sign. I’m sure even with that caveat it causes more accidents than if you simply had to stop for the light’s duration but in China a red light gets treated like a green and it’s chaos.

A lot of busy intersections are doing away with right turn on red.

Right on red is a great thing.
The problem is here no one stops.
Right on red in America you come to complete stop look both directions and then turn.
In China it's just fuck you I'll do what I want because I have a car. The people here don't even use their rearview mirrors ffs...

Well my vote is this wont do shit. They talk about their great oversight systems but we have seen how large systems work in China. Or not.

The thing is that they can recognize your face. and this is not only to show you on the shame board. It certainly go directly to affect your social credit score. Cumulating bad behaviors can lead to be forbidden to get train or plane tickets refused loans by the banks banning your kids from good schools and so on... Here some articles talking about the experiment and some of the other punishments . In the good side it can also help you to get loan easier avoiding deposits.
This article from the NYT also shows how they're adding more cameras and becoming better at detecting faces. Policemen can wear tiny ones to detect "bad" people.
Be aware it might come in Europe / US soon

Shame is the only thing that seems to prevent people from doing something in China. Because of this I am 100% for this sign.

The only time I've jaywalked in China was because that was the only way to cross the road at pedestrian crossing because vehicles view a red light as a mere suggestion. I missed entire green light for pedestrian cycles because apart from the light I could not tell the difference between traffic flow on a red and green light.
China needs traffic law enforcement in general. The CCP wants money and 100% employment yet there isn't a traffic cop handing out fines anywhere in sight. The one time you actually want a police presence in China and they're off playing mahjong.
