Hong Kong (AFP) - A British lecturer whotaught in Hong Kong has been found dead in mainland China and was"possibly" murdered, police said, with fears his disappearance threeweeks ago was linked to a million-dollar property deal.

香港（法新社）——在香港教学的英国教师被发现死在中国大陆，警方称可能是谋杀。有担心说他在三个礼拜前的消失可能和一个百万美元财产交易相关。

Local media reported Hilary Bower, 60, hadbeen murdered, but Hong Kong police would confirm only that he had been killed.

当地媒体报道称60岁的希拉里鲍尔已经被谋杀，但是香港警方只能确认说他被杀死。

Bower worked at Hong Kong PolytechnicUniversity and lived across the border in the southern mainland Chinese city ofShenzhen, commuting between the two places.

鲍尔工作于香港理工大学，并居住在对面的深圳，往返于两地之间。

He lived with hisgirlfriend and six-year-old son, according to reports.      

据报道，他和女朋友以及六岁的儿子一起住。

Hong Kong police said on Wednesday they hadreceived notification from mainland authorities that Bower had been killed inChina.

香港警方周三称他们已经获得大陆当局的确认说他已经被杀死在中国。

Charles also said he believed there may bea link between Bower's disappearance and a recent property sale for which Bowerwas due to receive HK$9 million ($1.2 million), the SCMP reported.

查尔斯还说他认为他的消失可能和最近的房地产销售相关联，鲍尔可以从这个房地产交易中获得900万港币，南华早报报道。

I am not defending the Chinese in any waybut I have also taught ESL all over Asia and Spain and have found that manyforeigners, particularily in Asia are dodgy, arrogant, and will lie throughtheir teeth about everything so I doubt this bloke was a saint!

How does a teacher that has moved aroundhave enough to invest to even get a piece of that much money. Who was theforeign counter parts in the investment. A Brit can not be 100% vested in acompany or holding in China as an individual.

If he wasn't married (and, undoubtedly, awill)....why would there be the assumption that the Chinese g/f is behind it?that's a significant amount of money, and it does seem a bit unusual for aforeign university lecturer since most of them only earn $1250-1500 USD permonth typically.. .but it's not a HUGE amount of money in HK orShenzhen/Guangzhou, where most apartments/condos typically cost $1.5-3.0million...if this was Thailand, that MIGHT be a more logical conclusion toreach, but there's a lot more money here than countries like Thailand or thePhilippines, so it's a bit of a stretch to assume someone who's probably verycomfortable with her lifestyle and child and b/f would want to put her futureand freedom at risk without a guaranteed payout, somehow....there might havebeen a will, but a lot of men would typically leave at least 50% of it in atrust for their underage son until the age of 18

Causeof death; "drowning", the guy was retired Navy.
