Have you been to guilin/yangshuo area as well? If so, how would you compare them?

你也去过桂林/阳朔吗？如果去过的话，你觉得张家界和桂林哪个好？

I have been to Guilin as well. They’re totally different to be honest. Guilin has those round hills where Zhangjiajie is very jagged. The mountains here are also a lot higher I feel, but both places are very beautiful. Guilin was less touristic though.

我也去过桂林。二者是完全不同的。桂林的山圆圆的，而张家界的山尖尖的，而且张家界的山也更高，两个地方都很美。桂林的游客更少点。

Very true, April to October is the suggested travel time. We were lucky with mostly sunny days.

I've been to both and they are excellent. Zhangzhajie is my favorite place in China. So many trails and such great views. But the trails are mostly stairs. And it is much smaller than yangshuo. Yangshuo is cool looking as well, just not as much so for me.
One big difference is zzj is a national park and feels like one. Yangshuo is a town nestled in a cool place. You can ride a bike through yangshuo and there are tons of activities like rafting, caves, etc.

两个地方我都去过，非常棒。张家界是我最喜欢的中国景点。很多的小道，非常棒的景观。但小道大部分都是阶梯。而且比阳朔小多了。阳朔也很美，但是我觉得比不上张家界。
一个巨大的差别是张家界是国家公园，感觉也是如此。阳朔是一个小镇。你可以骑行穿越阳朔，有很多活动可以玩，比如竹筏，洞穴等等。

Both are amazing. Zhangjiajie is more about the national park itself. Guilin (but more specifically Yangshuo) isn't a national park that you pay to enter, it's just beautiful all around.
Both are worth the visit and are some of the prettiest places in the world, but if I had to choose one it would be Yanshuo.
Yanshuo is also a 2 hour bus ride from the Longji Rice Terraces which are also beautiful

两个地方都很不错。张家界更多的是一个国家公园。桂林（具体来说是阳朔）不是国家公园，到处都很美。
两个地方都值得一游，也是世界上最美的地方之一，如果只能选一个的话，我会去阳朔。
而且阳朔到美丽的龙脊梯田只要两个小时巴士。

I spent 3 days in Yangshuo a few months ago. I recommend spending a few hours/1 day max in Guilin and most of your time in Yangshuo. Yangshuo felt like a hidden secret to me but it's clearly going to be a popular tourist destination 5-10 years from now.
With that said, Yangshuo was difficult to get to from my experience..but it makes it more of an adventure.

几个月前我在阳朔待了三天。我建议最多在桂林呆一天，然后剩余的都在阳朔。阳朔在我看来就是个隐藏的秘密，但是5-10年后肯定会成为一个着名的旅游景点。
话虽如此，根据我的经历，去阳朔还是挺麻烦的，但是这增加了探险的感觉。

Was just there. The amount of people there are horrendous. If anyone decides to go, go during the winter or early Spring.

刚去过，人不是一般的多。如果想去的话，建议还是冬天或者初春的时候去。

I went in October, not many people at all especially if you go to one of the areas that tour groups skip. The tour groups stick to the same few viewing points but there's plenty more good ones.
I enjoyed walking through the monkey forest as well

我十月份去的，不是很多人，尤其是旅游团不去的那些点。旅游团一般都去那少数几个固定的点，其实还有很多好的点。我也喜欢走路穿过猴林。

I went to China this summer as well. Visited my grandparents in Jinan then went Xi’an (beautiful and has a rich and unique history). Xi’an’s Muslim Quarters had really great food and culture. If possible, you should check it out OP:)
