Glorious wechat

Every rich kid in Guangzhou already has one of these smart watches with prepaid cash

No one has noticed the girl was actually using alipay rather than wechat? 😂😂

Tbh I prefer WeChat to other messaging apps like Whatsapp. I think the most interesting difference is that it is becoming a platform into itself. It's no secret that WeChat has added a lot of features that other messaging apps can only dream of: a whole mobile wallet on the app, taxi-hailing, commerce through WeShop, buying plane tickets, paying your utility bills, and much more.
What's beyond that is that a lot of companies are now building applications that can be used straight inside WeChat, such as WeGoGo, which lets you book travel experiences directly on WeChat. And they're working to reward people for contributing on it, which is neat.
It is already so much more than a messaging app, and in that sense is leaving its western competitors far, far behind. It looks like Facebook is attempting to open up its Messenger to third-party app developers, but no idea if it'd even match up to what is already offered on the market.

It is mainly due their special circumstance like a lot of fake money, fees for transferring across province, etc. Other country like Japan doesn't have these kind of problem thus slower to do this.
I see a lot of people see this convenience and said Wow China does this but why not other countries. There is many problems to implement this. For one, security. Two, infrastructure. Three, third party trust.

Also due to the fact that so few have credit cards in China.

Agreed. I talk to friends regularly on WeChat, Whatsapp, and Line.
WeChat is far superior to the other two major messaging apps. Even simple crap like emojis... WeChat just seems to do everything better. And don't even get me started on crap like Moments vs Status.

Having lived in several countries across different continents, I must say that China is by far the most convenient country I haves ever lived in. Not looking at the other problems of the country, but hey, no country is perfect.

I feel that it’s the same with japan as they have vending machines all over and trains are awesome but nothing beats a fast payment on your phone

I find cash okay in most countries, but in China it was always disgusting. You had either crisp new 100 yuan books, fresh out of the debt printer, or some really old nasty bills. Plus so many fakes, I literally loathed taking taxis when you paid with cash and many would try to scam you with fake money. This has gotten a lot better now with mobile payment, but the problem was never that bad in other countries, so the need is less.
