China trying to divert flow of Bramhaputra River.
China is testing techniques that could be used to build a 1,000 km long tunnel—the world’s longest—to divert water from the Brahmaputra in Tibet to the parched Xinjiang to turn it into California.
The water would be diverted from the Yarlung Tsangpo river in southern Tibet, which turns into the Brahmaputra once it enters India, to the Taklamakan desert in Xinjiang. China’s longest tunnel is the 85km Dahuofang water project in Liaoning province.
India already feels threatened by China's projects in the Tibetan plateau to reduce river flows into India. Diversion of the Brahmaputra is an idea China does not discuss in public, because it implies devastating India's northeastern plains and Bangladesh, either with floods or reduced water flow.
China's Monster Three Gorges Dam Is About To Slow The Rotation Of The Earth
Three Gorges Dam, China crosses the Yangtze River in Hubei province, China. It the world's largest hydroelectric power station by total capacity, which will be 22,500 MW when completed. When the water level is maximum at 175 meters (574 ft) over sea level (91 meters (299 ft) above river level), the reservoir created by the dam is about 660 kilometers (410 mi) in length and 1.12 kilometers (0.70 mi) in width on average. The total surface area of the reservoir is 1045 square kilometers, and it will will flood a total area of 632 square kilometers, of land. The reservoir will contain about 39.3 cu km (9.43 cubic miles) of water. That water will weigh more than 39 trillion kilograms (42 billion tons).
A shift in a mass of that size would affect the rotation of the Earth due to a phenomena known as the moment of inertia, which is the inertia of a rigid rotating body with respect to its rotation. The moment of inertia of an object about a given axis describes how difficult it is to change its angular motion about that axis. The longer the distance of a mass to its axis of rotation, the slower it will spin. You may not know it, but you see examples of this in everyday life. For example, a figure skater attempting to spin faster will draw her arms tight to her bodies, and thereby reduce her moment of inertia. Similarly, a diver attempting to somersault faster will bring his body into a tucked position.
Raising 39 trillion kilograms of water 175 meters above sea level will increase the Earth's moment of inertia and thus slow its rotation. However, the effect would extremely small. NASA scientists calculated that shift of such as mass would increase the length of day by only 0.06 microseconds and make the Earth only very slightly more round in the middle and flat on the top. It would shift the pole position by about two centimeters (0.8 inch). Note that a shift in any object's mass on the Earth relative to its axis of rotation will change its moment of inertia, although most shifts are too small to be measured (but they can be calculated).

3. CPEC(China Pakistan Economic Corridor): China is helping Pakistan to build a corridor which is basically a collection of infrastructure projects like modern transportation networks, numerous energy projects, and special economic zones. A web of roads and rail network will be build under this project. It is said that the reason behind this development is China requires less amount of resources and money to ship petroleum and other items through Pakistan than to ship it all the way from sea route. China recently stopped funding CPEC

The second point also is a separate question on Quora.

Ash Bee
Brahmaputra get majority of its volume after it enters India or at very lower reaches of Tibet bordering India. Any diversion will have almost no impact on India and its flood plains.
In fact almost all the norther rives in India originating in China, get their volume within India before that, they are largely fresh water streams.

The summit of Mt. Everest, the highest mountain in the world, marks the border between China and Nepal.
All of China’s railways lines put together could loop around the earth twice.
THE SUNRISE IN PARTS OF CHINA CAN BE AS LATE AS 10 AM-Despite being a wide and large country, China only has one time zone – Standard Chinese time. This means that in the West of China, the sunrise can be as late as 10 AM!
This means that when it’s 6 o’clock in the nation’s capital, it’s 6 o’clock almost 3,000 miles further west, in Kashgar.

THE ELDERLY RIGHTS LAW-
If you have parents that are over 60 years old, it’s illegal to not visit them regularly. This is definitely one of the most interesting China facts, since, in many other countries, the elders are being forgotten or put into rest-homes.

Sayandeep Gupta, Observer of Indian Foreign policy(印度外交政策的观察者)
Single's Day
China may have moved way ahead of India on the economic front but on the social front it is very similar to India.
China is currently experiencing a huge “singles” problem in the country[1]. Traditional Chinese people prefer a male child to a female child and on top of that the one-child policy of the government has led to a huge gender imbalance in the country. This has led to a dearth of girls to get married to and there is a huge population of single men living in China. These single men over the age of 30 years are known as Shengnan or “leftover men”. It is estimated that by 2020 there will be 30 million more men than women looking for a partner.
Also much like India, if girls don't get married quick enough they are ridiculed and are subject to humiliation. Such unmarried girls in their late twenties or above are known as Shengnu or “leftover women”. Such girls also find it really difficult to find partners even though there is a severe shortage of brides.
So students of Nanjing University in 1993 started to celebrate single's day or Guanggun Jie as a joke and counter to the Valentine's Day. The single's day is celebrated on 11th November each year as the date is written as 11/11 and 1 resembles the individual who is single. It was mainly started to remove the stigma attached to being single in a traditional Chinese society.
Today Single's Day is celebrated as a shopping holiday and just as couples buy each other gifts on Valentine's Day, single people buy themselves gifts. This day has become the world's largest offline and online shopping day.
Forget Big Billion Day by Flipkart or Great Indian Shopping Festival by Amazon! Alibaba is the Chinese equivalent of Flipkart and the biggest e-commerce company in China. In 2016, $1 Billion (almost Rs 7,000 crore) worth of orders were placed in first 5 minutes and total trade vile of the day was more than $17 Billion ( almost Rs 1.2 lakh crore).
It all started in 2009 when Alibaba started the Single's Day Sale and in the first year it had a total sale volume of $6.4 million ( almost Rs 45 crore) for this day. By 2011, which was dubbed the Single's Day of the century because it was 11/11/11 Alibaba reported sales worth $640 million ( almost Rs 4,500 crores). This year that is 2018 it shattered all records and notched up $30.8 Billion ( almost Rs 2.2 lakh crore) worth of sales as the tradition marked it's 10th year. To get a perspective of how big that is, it is higher than the nominal GDP of half of all the countries in the world and more than the GDP of Nepal and Bhutan. And Indian Defence Budget allocation for this year is Rs 2.8 lakh crore. This year's tally is 27% higher than previous year's tally and comes in the wake of trade war with US, slowing economy and stock market slump in China. And we are only talking about Alibaba. You have JD.com, Inc. a rival of Alibaba that also has significant sales and other offline sales as well. All this sales figure are for 1 single day!
Graph comparing Black Friday sales( biggest online sale in US) with Single's Day sales
On this day popular brands offer great discounts and some of the featured items on sale on this day are Boyfriend pillows and single travel ticket. To manage the high volumes of delivery JD.com, Inc. has opened the world's first automated- robot managed warehouse in China.[2]
On the evening of 10th November, Alibaba hosts a television gala with a countdown to the midnight start of Single's Day that can give the New Year's Eve gala at Time's Square a run for their money. Various international and Chinese celebrities perform in the Hollywood style spectacle and boast viewships of upto 400 million. Past guests include Daniel Craig( remember James Bond from Skyfall or Casino Royale), David Beckham, Victoria Beckham and Victoria's Secret Angels.
Property in Hong Kong
This year a parking space in Hong Kong sold for $760,000 ( around Rs 5.3 crore) in Kowloon, the most populous area in Hong Kong. It is the highest price per square foot ever paid for a parking spot world wide[3]. In Manhattan, New York City a parking spot sold for $1 million ( around Rs 7 crore) but that was 300 square foot of area but this one is around 150 square foot of area. This makes the record breaking parking spot cost $ 5,663 ( around Rs 4 lakh) per square feet, while the average price per square feet of a flat in Kowloon is $ 2,083 ( around Rs 1.5 lakh).
The parking spot is inside Sun Hung Kai Properties' Luxury Development, Ultima. Thr 1,911 sq ft four bedroom apartments in Ultima go for around $ 12.5 million ( around Rs 88 crore).
Hong Kong has some of the most unaffordable housing in the world, with the median price of a home in the city costing 19 times the annual median household income in Hong Kong. The city topped the list of the most expensive cities in the world this year, eight times in a row. It has been known that real estate agents in Hong Kong demand a deposit of $ 900,000 ( around Rs 6.3 crore) from potential buyers just to view the property.
While luxary apartments sell for staggering amounts in Hong Kong, renting can be pretty expensive too. Subdivided flats smaller than 100 sq feet ( smaller than the parking space we talked about earlier) can cost upwards of $ 380 ( around Rs 27,000) a month just to rent. These rentals can be so small they are called coffin houses and many poor people struggle to find affordable houses in Hong Kong.
This has prompted many people known as McRefugees to spend the nights sleeping in 24hr McDonald's outlets across the city. More than 70% of these McRefugees have a place to sleep such as public housing flats or subdivided flats and the majority are employed with part-time or full-time jobs. However, as you can see the living conditions are not exactly great, so they choose to spend the nights in these McDonald's outlets to save on electricity bills and many feel claustrophobic in the tiny subdivided units with no windows and air-conditioning.
Free wi-fi, air-conditioning in sweltering heat, bathroom facilities and cheap food make it the ideal destination for these people.

Chinese technological and infrastructural advancements:
As an Indian, one thing that intrigues my mind about China is the technological and infrastructural advancements that this country is witnessing in this era which I think that every Indian should know about. Some of the mind blowing technological advancements of this country is:
Desert farming:
Picture source: Nice Work China, You Might Save Us All
This is one of the most promising projects of China, it aims to convert 13,000 hectares of desert into greenland in the next few years. Further, in the next three years, the country hopes to reforest 50 percent of degraded desert land . China is also collaborating with Abu Dhabi[1] to make it a green desert.
The researchers of Chongqing Jiaotong University[2] have developed a paste that is made from the plant cell walls which drastically increases the water and nutrient retention of soil.
Using this technology, crops like corn, tomatoes, sorghum and sunflowers are grown that is transforming more than 200 hectares of sand dunes into an oasis.
With the increase in the instances of water scarcity, technological developments to make desert farming viable seems quite promising.
Artificial moons:
https://qz.com/1428828/a-chinese...
China is planning to replace street lights by solar powered artificial satellites by 2022.[3]
The artificial moon is planned to orbit the city Chengdu at the height of about 500 km. It will reflect the sun’s light at night, and supplement street lights in the city which has a population of approximately 1.6 million.
It is reported to have brightness of about eight times that of the moon, and about be a fifth [4] of normal streetlight.Despite a lot of challenges, this will be one of the good scientific advancement that will save a lot of electricity in the long run.
World’s tallest air purifier.[5]
China has built 328-foot-tall air purifier , run by the Institute of Earth Environment at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The mechanism of the purifier Polluted air is brought into the glass rooms of the air purifier where it’s heated by trapped solar energy. The hot air naturally rises and moves upwards through the tower’s many sets of cleaning filters.
This has brought a noticeable improvement in air quality in every season and it has a promising role in reducing the air pollution and air toxicity..
World’s longest sea bridge[6] :
The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge is the longest sea bridge of the world bridge which is made of 420,000 tons of steel (enough to build 60 Eiffel Towers).
It is designed in the shape of snake and it has the capacity to withstand major natural disasters like storms and earthquakes. This bridge basically serves the purpose of reducing the commuting time between Qingdao and Huangdao and for promoting the tourism of Hong kong.
Further, china has also made the world’s largest telescope (FAST), they have also developed advanced cryptographic communication and has constructed many engineering marvels like the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge which is the longest and highest glass bridge in the world . As an Indian, one thing that fascinates me about China is its progress in the areas of engineering and R&D. This is something that every Indian should know about this country.

Some of the facts about China which I can recall are:
# China has a literacy rate of 95.9%, one of the highest in the developing world.
# The Great Wall of China is not actually visible from space despite of the myths.
# Luoyang City in Henan province is the oldest city which had been the capital for a period in Chinese history.
# One-child policy. It is the one-child per family restriction in the population control policy. It was introduced in 1978. It was laid down to minimize the various problems due to overpopulation. (Govind Jai Ganesh updated the information that China has done away with the one child policy.)
# Mao Zedong, China's ruler for 27 years, only visited one foreign country in his life- Russia and there he only visited twice.
# Chinese manufactured automobiles are the copy of European manufactured automobiles. They mastered the art of imitating designs.
Apart from this, there are many facts which will I add to this list later on.
Hope this helps. Thank you!

China is considered to be one of the oldest civilizations in the world and a sleeping giant. As the most populous country, it has successfully surpassed the world in many ways. However, before they experienced this difference personally, people did not know much about China.
Here is the list of 20 most interesting facts that distinguish China from the rest of the world.
China is the fourth largest country in the world (after Russia, Canada and the United States). It has an area of 3,719,275 square miles (slightly smaller than the United States) and its border with other countries exceeds 117,445 miles. There are about 5,000 islands along the coast of China.
China is the hometown of giant pandas. On Earth, no other place can effectively breed giant pandas like China. Giant pandas live and reproduce in the misty mountains of southwestern China. In fact, all the pandas in the world are rented from China.
Tickling is a kind of torture to the nobility in ancient China, because it leaves no trace and the recovery is very fast.
In foreign countries, almost every Chinese restaurant has fortune cookies, but in China, you rarely see them. The main reason is that they are never part of Chinese culture. Fortune Cookie was invented by a worker at the East River Plant in San Francisco in 1920!
Although it was sometimes found to be a journey in China, the concept of toilet paper came from China. At first it was only used by the emperor and the king.
Not only that, but great inventions like gunpowder, printing, paper and compass were born in China.
Did you know that although there is a distance between the provinces, is there only one time zone in China?
Ice cream was also invented in China. In the beginning, it was just a mixture of milk and soft rice.
The calculation of π was invented by Zu Chongzhi. He calculated its value, 3.141592654, although this number never really ended.
When you come to China, red is the most visible and most common color you will see. From the bulletin board to the light, red is the most obvious. The main reason is that red is considered a lucky color in China.
China is the oldest tree in the world. It has a history of 200 million years. It is the oldest tree in the world.
