Surveillance footage from outside a home in Tennessee is going viral for an unexpected reason after a stranger approached a family’s front door to return an American flag.

Erin Fezell took to her Facebook page to share the video of a man who recovered her family’s flag after winds had blown it off of the pole. In the footage he is seen walking up to her front door with the flag perfectly folded in hand. But he doesn’t stop there in his effort to return it in a proper manner. Instead he makes sure not to let it touch the ground again by pulling over a chair and setting them both up right in front of the door.

“This is amazing makes my heart so happy to see people still care about the flag and what it stands for” one person wrote. Another said “So much good still in this world.”

Others are simply happy that for once during the holiday season this surveillance footage wasn’t capturing a porch package poacher.

Years ago I worked at a new car dealer. (not as a salesman) There was an old surly mechanic there who didn't have much of a kind word to say to many and he was usually pretty crass. Turned out he was a former US Marine and saw service in the Vietnam War. Anyway I noticed in an old building on the lot a large american flag wadded-up in the corner. I went to go find a box to put it in because I didn't like it seeing it like that. When I went and asked this mechanic if I could have the big box laying in his work area he said something crude and I responded that I had found a wadded-up flag and I wanted to fold it and store it properly. He got serious and said "Lets go look at it." He noticed it was tattered and torn and then said he would take it to the local VFW and they would take care of disposing of it with dignity. But he made me help him fold it the correct way before he walked it over to his truck and carefully placed it in the back seat. It changed my opinion of the man. He and I had a different relationship after that.

As a teacher I try to instill in my students that standing for the national anthem and pledge of allegiance does not mean that you agree with the president government or even your neighbors. Saluting the flag and standing for the national anthem simply shows that you like being in America. You are showing your respect and affection for a country that gives you freedom.
