First of all it’s republic time not monarch China, so there goes your “history”. And there is a way to portray the dark past accurately while being critical of it, the director went out of their way to glorify it. If you can’t tell the difference it’s your problem.

首先，这部剧的时代背景是民国时期，而不是封建专制时期，所以那才是你所说的“历史”。而且，导演在准确描绘黑暗过去的同时，也可以批判过去啊，但这个导演却相反，他歌颂这种过去。如果你还看不出这其中的区别，那就是你的问题了。

It reflects the accurate historical situation at the moment. From the clothings, I would this is from republic of china era 1912-1949. SJWs are really getting out of control. What are you supposed to do? Make dramas of the early 20th century in which gay rights, feminism are displayed? It is just not historically right.

The point is not they present the old Chinese society but they also beautifies the whole thing.

Yes, historical dramas should be historically accurate, but that does not mean they should create an ENTIRE SHOW based on a woman completely obsessed with having a son. She also kept on saying that it was for her husband and was punishing herself for not providing a son for her husband.

没错，历史剧应该符合历史，但那不意味着他们就应该创造出一个整部剧从头到尾完全痴迷于生一个儿子的女性形象。她还一直说生儿子是为了他丈夫，不能帮他丈夫生一个儿子出来是对她自己的惩罚。



I'm not Chinese and I've never watched "Mother's Life", but the fact that they made this show now and are seemingly showing female oppression in a sympathetic light is very much someone's comment on modern society in China.

我不是中国人，我也没看过《娘道》，但他们似乎在以一种同情的眼光来展示对女性的压迫，这个事实跟中国当代社会的情形很像。

So, Aaron, what you are saying is that instead of "12 years a slave", they should make the movie "12 years a black man who has the equal rights to his white counterparts" because thats the moral standard of the society?

This drama depict the much early part of Chinese history.. over people's preference of son over daughter.. I don't think there is anything wrong with telling that historical preference in this drama.

这部剧描绘了很早期的中国历史。。。。。。那个时候人们偏爱儿子，而不是女儿。这部剧告诉了人们这个历史性偏好，我不觉得有什么不对啊。

And it shouldn't be judged based on today's standard of son/ daughter equality.. history is history !

而且人们也不应该用现在生男生女都一样的标准来评判这部剧。历史就是历史！

china frequently likes making historical drama settings. my parents and grandparents always seem to watch chinese drama and like 80% of the time, its always in a historical setting in some royal court

I've seen several Chinese soap dramas/movies had similar stories like this. The king/royalty/husband's family wants a son as their heir. If the wife or mistress doesn't deliver what they want; a son but get a daughter instead they get ridicule. The wife received a heavy burden and responsible for not doing her duty.

我看过几部中国肥皂剧和电影，也是类似的故事。皇帝、王公贵族想要生一个儿子当继承人，或者丈夫想要生一个儿子传宗接代。如果他们的妻或者妾生的不是儿子，而是女儿的话，他们会觉得面上无光。而妻子就会背负沉重的心理负担，因为没有履行职责。
