I am a Canadian that is moving to Jinan just for one month in August. I've been trying to learn what I can before then but I'm still struggling a bit with the following:

3.you don't need take your folding bike Jinan has a lot of sharing-bikes that costs your 1yuan for 30 minutes riding. you can find the bikes everywhere and you can drop them everywhere. it's convenient. I have no idea about the other questions. sorry

Yep company is mobike. (app available on apple and android) Only difficulty is getting money into a Wechat account which is not super easy without a Chinese bank account (300 RMB is required for the deposit to sign up). It can be as easy as giving cash to a Chinese friend and getting them to deposit in your account.

You'd need to lix a bank card to the bike share apps. Not sure if you can do this with non-Chinese cards. Very doubtful.

If they have the Ofo bikes there it works through wechat without a deposit. Still need a Chinese bank account to pay though.

And for your 5. Yes you can get a local sim and tether it to your laptop. I know China Unicom has one that you can plug into a USB that goes into your laptop. It was 200 RMB plus the sim data plan. Not bad but if you're there for a month it's kind of a hassle.

Sim cards are cheap but you will need Chinese to get one. All the coffee shops have wifi. Jinan is a good time I've been here three years. You can buy a bike for less than a hundred bucks here and I assume that is less than the cost of the luggage. Jinan is fine for biking and had bike lanes on most major streets. Get wechat. Send me a message and I'll talk further.

good advice here. On the simcard issue get a China Unicom wireless 4g hotspot can prepay at a China Unicom store which you can find everywhere. A passport and cash should be enough to get the sim card but you'll need someone to help communicate. If you are desperate for help with any of this stuff at the beginning spend a couple days at a Western hotel and lean on their English-speaking staff.
