Had this argument many times. They stillbelive a broom and dust pan are better, despite the fact that you are justbrooming the dust around rather than getting rid of it.
Vacuum cleaners are waaaaay better,regardless if it's for carpet, concrete, tiles or wooden floor. It actuallysucks up the dust and dirt rather than pushing it around.

I've never seen someone refuse a vacuum,but I've also never seen someone offer a Chinese person a vacuum.

It's because they don't know you need toclean the filter so they think it leant work.

I don't see the value of a vacuum cleaner,most floors are concrete, wood, or marble. Vacuum cleaner is best for rugs. Inaddition, most people live in apartments and having a maid is very cheap inChina compared to the west.

我没看出吸尘器的价值在哪，很多地板都是水泥，实木或是大理石的。而吸尘器清理地毯最拿手。除此之外，很多住公寓的人都有家政服务，服务价格和西方比起来非常便宜。

Yeah, nobody has a carpet here. I onlybought a vacuum this year for the first time, but it wasn't for cleaning. Myapartment had fleas, vacuum kills fleas, dust is a bonus.

The older generation just doesn't know whatthat is, and how to use it. And they think theire way is the best and only way.
Same with the washing machine: washing allcloths with 15minutes quick wash in cold water, adding only 1/3 of thesuggested washing powder amount and then complain that nothing gets clean andthat the machine doesn't clean properly.
Back to topic: Younger people start usingvacuum cleaners. But it's not like in the West where everybody grew up with avacuum cleaner and naturally understands it's benefits, but the first even needto learn that this exists, and, that it indeed brings some benefits.

老一辈的人根本不知道这是什么东西，也不知道怎么用。而且他们认为他们自己的清扫方式才是最好的也是唯一的清扫方式。
洗衣机也一样：把所有衣服洗完只用15分钟，而且是用冷水洗，只加了建议用量三分之一的洗衣粉，然后就抱怨根本没洗干净，洗衣机根本就不会洗衣服。
回到题目：年轻一代已经开始使用吸尘器了。但并不是所有人都像西方人一样，是和吸尘器一起长大的，懂得吸尘器的好处，但首先起码知道了这个东西，也知道了这玩意确实是有好处的。

China does air conditioning better thanAmerica. It is 2017 and I still have to use a window air conditioner thatsounds like a jet engine to cool my room in NYC.

I think NYC is similar climate to here soprobably its really hot for only something like 20 days per Year?! And mostpeople go on Vacation during that time... no sense to have an aircon. Same asSouth Chinese usually dont have heating because its Cold only a few days peryear.
But i Think you still could install airconif you pay a bit Money. In China the aircon also isnt for free.

我觉得纽约的天气和这里差不多，可能每年能有20天更热点？那时候大多人都去度假了……没有必要装什么空调。就好比中国南方通常都没有暖气，因为每年那么几天比较冷。

I've never felt colder in my life thanwinter in South China. I don't feel bad admitting that, either, because theCanadians in town all agreed.

Yeah, I live in the north, where we wouldonly need AC for a few months in the summer, and even then just as needed.However, every house and apartment has central heating for the colder months.

Most of Chinese residences are furnishedwith wooden floor or tile, they’re easy to be cleaned up by mops.

I had a non-Chinese grandmother who wouldsweep the carpet.
She also had a vacuum cleaner from 1956 orthereabouts, which worked very badly seeing as this was over 30 years later.
Not only was the tech way worse, but it wassimply a very tired vacuum cleaner. Loud as fuck, and it had a gentle breezewafting into its tube.
Of course, this meant that vacuum cleanerswhere shit, and they could never, ever be useful. She still blamed her husbandfor wasting money on it.
I imagine a similar scenario exists fortoday's ayis. They grew up sweeping/mopping, and never saw a decent vacuumcleaner until they had already decided they were awful noisy things which workpoorly.

BTW. The noise difference between thewindow AC units used in the USA and the AC units used in China is because theyare two different types. The Chinese units place the compressor outside, Thefan inside, and only recirculate the inside air. The Window type AC units allowfresh air in and the compressor is in the same metal housing.

顺便说一句。美国用的窗式空调和中国用的空调之所以噪音不一样，是因为种类不同。中国的是把压缩机装到外边，把风扇装到里边，只循环室内空气。而窗式空调能让室外的新鲜空气进来，压缩机而风扇都是一起装在铁壳里的。
