Not just an ambulance (or one sitting at a hospital) but an ambulance with sirens wailing. Is it just me or are they rare as fuck?

Anybody want to comment on why compared to Western countries there are hardly any ambulances on the roads in China? Compare this to say Hong Kong where ambulances are common enough.

Wumao are once again welcome to post and talk about how backward their healthcare system is e.g. rich mainlanders will GTFO and get their healthcare from waiguo because it's superior to what their motherland has.

Ambulances are quite expensive and generally have to fight with traffic since they aren't allowed to run lights or go in the opposite lanes hence it's usually faster to just have a taxi or someone drive you there.
They are definitely indeed more common in HK but everything with the healthcare system is more advanced in HK so it doesn't surprise me.

We attended a first aid course recently and the statistics the trainer were quoting was scary. She mentioned a report a few years back about how the average Beijing ambulance response time was 30 minutes +. In addition China has a low amount of trained first aiders compared to many western countries. If you couple that with the relatively new good samaritan laws then you in an uphill battle in medical emergency.

because they would be stuck in traffic so they are pointless? also hospitals are scattered like on every kilometre so it's easier just to get there by yourself than wait for ambulance

Regularly. I've even had the misfortune of riding in one.

Same. But I was in so much pain I can't actually remember the experience.

Ditto. I just remember hoping I wouldn't be dropped as I was carried down the elevatorless building from the top floor then everything else is a little foggy.

I sometimes see what appears to be private ambulances but yeah people just go to the closest hospital themselves or with a friend usually

Just call a didi instead. It would be faster and cheaper than any ambulance.

I used to see them all the time.
If you mean a proper ambulance with modern medical equipment in the back etc then no I never saw one of those.

an ambulance? stuck in traffic right next to me for 15 long minutes?
never I have never seen that

I was in one last month. People generally take taxis of they need have to go to hospital

I see one most days but I live about a block away from a major hospital.

Just a few days ago I saw one with its sirens on. They were stuck in traffic obviously nobody would get on the side to give them a clear path. I was thinking to myself and wished I never need to call one.
