My first trip to China was in 1982. It wasthe early days of China rejoining the world; I went there for the opening ofthe 2nd international hotel in Beijing.
And it was a dump.
The hotel was next to an open-air market,which is a nice way of saying that farmers had set up shop in the rubble. Theair was black with coal smoke. There was no fresh milk. Food hygiene wasrudimentary at best. There were almost no cars; everyone rode bikes. There wasseparate currency for locals and tourists, and only the latter could be used atthe Friendship Stores which were the only stores that had stocked shelves.Locals wandered into the hotel to steal the color brochures — there was almostno color printing in China at that time. There were seven clerks at thereception desk, only one of whom spoke English.
Fast forward to, say, 2006. That market isnow a massive office and shopping complex. The level of English is higher thanin Tokyo. There is some extraordinary architecture, excellent food (bothChinese and Western), a terrific public transport system, a superb airport,etc. etc. etc.
To see that much change in a singlelifetime is nothing short of extraordinary. While the very young — who don’tremember the way things used to be — do have some of the expected complaints,most people realize they’re part of a miracle. And they rightfully give theirgovernment some of the credit.

我第一次去中国是在1982年。那时候中国刚刚对世界开放不久；我去那里是为了参加北京的第二家国际酒店开业典礼。
印象相当糟糕。
酒店附近是露天市场，其实就是农民在瓦砾中设了摊点，空气被煤烟染黑。没有新鲜牛奶。食物卫生非常糟糕。几乎没有汽车；大家都骑自行车。当地人和游客使用着不同的货币，而只有后者的才能在友谊店里买东西。当地人到酒店里偷彩色小册子——当时中国几乎没有彩色印刷。当时酒店接待处有七个店员，只有一个会说英语。

时间来到2006年。那个露天市场现在成为了一个巨大的办公和购物综合体。英语水平比东京的高。还有非常棒的建筑和食物（包括中餐和西餐），极好的公共交通系统，一个超级好的机场等等。
在短短的一生中就可以看到这么大的变化，确实是非同凡响的。虽然非常年轻的年轻人——不知道以前的中国是什么样子——确实还会有抱怨，但是大部分人都知道中国的成就简直是一个奇迹。而他们也知道政府在其中所扮演的重要作用。

Thosedudes get free money from their government to live on and get to oppress theBangladeshis and the Pakistanis and the Indians and the Philippine maids, whoall have to surrender their passports to their Saudi employers upon enteringthe Kingdom and become indentured serfs to them.

As a Chinese, I feel flattered when Irealize there are so many people living thousands of miles away still care forour happiness and state of mind.
They care so much about others, and forgetabout the troubles and problems they might have to face on daily basis. What adevotion and selfless behavior!

How can anyone on quora tell how allcitizens of the People’s Republic of China feel about their government?
What makes you think they’d all feel thesame way?
Some yes, some no, some have mixedfeelings, some won’t care at all.
Ask any yes/no question on any subject& such is the answer you’ll get:
“Do left handed people like cauliflower?”
Some yes, some no, some have mixedfeelings, some won’t care at all.

怎么可能有人知道中国的全体公民是如何看待中国政府的呢？
你凭什么觉得全体中国人对政府的感受是一样的？
有些人是，有些人说不是，有些人喜忧参半，有些人根本不关心。

The answer is YES!
I was born in China, and lived in China forover 20 years. Now I’m like thousands of other Chinese students who arestudying abroad to chase our career dreams. Many people would question thisanswer. I blame this to the social media. When I read the news from outsideChina, I find that the media is always reporting the bad parts, just like theycan always catch the eyeballs of the readers. Sometimes, FINALLY, I can findsome of the news is related to virtuous spirits, but they use the ironic toneswhich I do not like.
As I have been to many countries anddistricts, I have seen the attitudes towards their governments. First of all,we should understand that no all citizens are satisfied to their governments.But when talking abut the Chinese government with my friends and people aroundme, we can always get to the same answer.
After traveling to many places and tryingmany new things, I have a conclusion actually. Don’t fully trust the words fromothers. Just experience yourself. I hope you can take a visit to China and thenyou can get your own answer.

我出生在中国，并且在那里生活了20多年。现在我和其他成千上万的中国学生一样留学海外追求自己的职业梦想。很多人会质疑我的这个回答。我觉得这是媒体的错。我在看海外媒体的报道时，发现他们总是报道不好的事情，因为可以吸引读者眼球。有时候偶尔会发现一些正面的，但是却使用讽刺的口吻，这不是我喜欢的。
我去过很多国家和地区，看到了他们对政府的态度。首先，我们得清楚不是所有公民都对自己的政府感到满意。但是当和我朋友以及周围的人谈论中国政府时，我们总是能得到相同的答案。
在去了那么多地方，尝试了那么多新事物后，我终于有了结论。不要完全相信他人的说辞。自己去体验。我希望你能来中国，自己寻找答案。

Being happy is more of a personal choice.You can live in Finland, Norway, Canada and other top happiest countries in theworld, but still feel depressed.
I remember around 10 years ago when I wastravelling in Belgium, I was walking around a very beautiful lake, appreciatingthe nice lake view, then I saw a girl crying sadly, facing the lake. I feltvery sad for her. For many people from developing countries, they would be veryhappy to live in a clean and beautiful city, with fresh air, good income andeverything, but obviously happiness is not guaranteed. Being happy is a choice.the power of being positive comes from your heart, not from your government.You can be happy anywhere as long as you want to.

Some of my friends who never visited Chinaare constantly asking me how is life in China. Some even feel miserable for mycondition, why? because these images are what they see on media:
Pollution ..crowds and other negativethings..
When I first decided to come to China aftergraduation in Australia, my australian friends were so confused , they didn’tunderstand why I left beautiful sydney for CHINA, here is why, I see China asan opportunity, as a country to explore, and also of course, I have myrelatives in China. I feel happy living with my family, working with a goal andtravelling in a large country.
So I can say I live a quite happy life inChina, although there are several social problems here, the house is tooexpensive, the air quality is not good, but I feel I’m happy! Of course when Iwas in other countries, I felt happy too.

快不快乐更多的是一种个人选择。你可以居住在芬兰，挪威，加拿大或者其他幸福指数高的国家，但是你依然可能感到不开心。
我还记得10年前去比利时游玩时，我在一个非常美丽的湖泊边散步，享受着风景的优美，突然我看到一个女孩悲伤的哭泣着，面朝湖面。我为她感到难过。对于发展中国家的很多人而言，居住在一个干净漂亮的城市里将是一件特别幸福的事情，新鲜空气，良好收入，等等，但是显然幸福是无法担保的。快不快乐是一种选择。积极的能量来自于你的内心，不是来自你的政府。只要你愿意，在哪里你都可以开心起来。

我的一些朋友从未来过中国，经常问我中国的生活是什么样子的。某些人甚至为我的境况感到难过，为什么？因为他们是从媒体上看到这些消息的：污染，拥挤和其他消极的事情。。。
我在澳洲毕业后决定回中国时，我的澳洲朋友都非常困惑，他们不明白为什么我要离开美丽的悉尼回到中国，因为我认为中国提供了机遇，值得探索，当然还有我的亲人也在中国。和家人生活在一起，工作有目标，在巨大的中国旅行，这些都让我感到幸福。

所以我在中国的生活相当幸福，虽然也存在一些社会问题，比如房价太高，空气不太好，但是我还是感到幸福！当然在其他国家时我也感到幸福。在美国的时候开心，在澳洲的时候开心。。。
所以说，开不开心其实是你个人的选择！如果你想过上幸福的生活，你就可以！不论你身在何处！
