Seattle (AFP) -Boeing secured a record $38 billion in new orders from China as visitingPresident Xi Jinping delivered an "I've got your back" message towary chief executives of America's biggest companies Wednesday.

Nowadays therearen't many products we produce that they want to buy, and we are willing tosell. (Some high tech gears require export license, and military relatedproducts are out of the questions.)
The aircraftcompletion center is just a small gesture in return. The works will be limitedto paint, interior decoration, and test flight. So basically the 737s will bebuilt in US, fly to China, paint Chinese airline logo, assemble some seats, putsome signs and indicators in Chinese, do the final flight testing, and sell toChina.
Do they need the737's technology? Badly more than 10 years ago. Now, for them it's justsomething nice to have.
China isdeveloping their own commercial airliner now. The project started in early2000. The first test flight of the 90 seats ARJ21-700 was 2008, and is readyfor commercial flight.
The 158 seatsC919, same class as Boeing 737, is scheduled for the first test flight in 2016.Boeing was not involved in this projects. However, GE will provide the engineand Honeywell will provide some other parts.
China has alsojust signed joint development agreement with Russia for wide body commercialairliner.
