That train was operating when both Koreas made an agreement to allow NK to work in SK. Additionally to allow tourism at a certain resort until a NK soldier killed an old lady and the NK government tried to cover its tracks. After that they shut’er down.

I was there, and asked if they could stamp my passport. but he would only put the stamp on a piece of paper

When I was there they just had the stamps sitting there free to use, but had previously warned that it could cause trouble down the line if certain countries saw that you had it when going through customs.

Everyone in the West knows about the nukes, but I feel that most people are unaware of your first point there. This type of progress would be absolutely unthinkable under the past few presidents. I don't think the media has stressed enough the role that he's played in this apparent detente. Obviously he can't do it single-handedly, I just feel that compared to other players in the situation he's getting shamefully little credit in the media.

I dunno about the nuke thing. I've seen a bunch of comments about how NK is doing this because their testing facility collapsed. I think it's the complete opposite. They can deliver a nuke now so they've decided they finally have leverage.

What's happening is an American led misunderstanding of Korean priorities. They don't want eternal war with their once fellow countrymen. Who does want that? Outsiders mostly.
This is the Berlin Wall of today. Just like in Germany, things are going to start happening very quickly on the peninsula.
SK clearly wants unification as their end game. Now that there is an actual chance for that, they're pulling out all the stops in the hopes of getting NK up to speed with the rest of the world.
There is no real mystery here.

I don't think anyone wants war, and that's exactly what's driving this.
Korea has been a proxy for war since the 1950's between communism and capitalism.
Now, China has a ruler which is moving towards capitalism, and Xi Jin Ping wants to look like a man of reason to the world, even though he's enacting shady policies in China. To create peace in Korea would be a huge PR stunt for China.
Contrarily, the US now has an unpredictable leader, which moves South Korea into insecurity. If Trump sparks a war SK will be the first thing to take all hits.
Thus, NK sent the olive branch under pressure from the Chinese, and SK is grabbing at like its a lifeline.
It's not that complicated when you place yourself in their shoes, the choices are either to make peace or to become the epitome of a humanitarian disaster

I'm in Korea atm and one of my friends has a similar theory. China has been westernizing so KJU is afraid he'll lose his only ally. All the tweets and threats were to try and get Trump to do something dumb and start a war because China said it's helping NK if the US starts it but is leaving NK out to dry if they start the war. Nothing happened so now he's dealing with the pieces he has left. SK's President Moon is very open to reunification and not as thrilled about the US military presence on the peninsula. KJU also realizes he may not get a chance for someone to seriously want to reunify because the younger generations of Koreans that don't remember their family in the north are caring less and less about reuniting. Now SK and NK can reunite, President Moon will probably be able to get rid of a lot of the American military over time, NK gets a stronger ally and hurts US relations with SK which is one of the fastest growing economies in the world.

我现在在韩国，我的一个朋友也持有类似看法。中国在西化，所以金正恩害怕自己将失去唯一的盟友。所有的言辞和威胁都是为了让川普首先犯傻并发起战争，因为中国说过如果美国开战将帮助朝鲜，如果朝鲜开战就不管。韩国总统文在寅非常希望统一，对美军在半岛的军事存在不是非常感冒。金正恩也意识到韩国想统一的人也不多了，因为年轻一代韩国人都不记得自己在朝鲜的亲人了，对统一越来越不在乎。现在朝韩统一的话，很多美军可能就撤出韩国了。这样朝鲜就获得了一个更强大的盟友，并伤害美韩关系，而韩国是世界上经济增速最快的国家之一。
