Weirdly enough, it's awesome, but you just need the right car. I have had sex in four different cars and I haven't figured out what made one car better than another; yet, there was a clear leader (or perhaps it was a combination of the car + the man who knew how to navigate his movements around the cramped space).

Otherwise, a car is a wonderfully versatile location. You can lie back with your legs on the dashboard. You can stick your legs or one of them out of the window. You can step outside and lean against the car, having sex standing up (but be careful, leaning hard can bend the exterior paneling!). You can shift seats this and that way, get comfortable around the back seat... if you have a van or a pickup truck, you're even luckier.

To balance out the answers saying it's uncomfortable and cramped, I'd like to say that it can be a lot of fun, with the right car and the right girl (and at the right time). If the passenger seat reclines significantly, it works pretty well with the girl on top (although you will have to put up with a few moments of "set up").

It's not as comfortable as, say, a bed, but for me it's always involved spontaneity, so we didn't really care (I think it also helped that we'd had sex many times before. Pulling off the highway because you can't wait any longer is exciting enough that you don't really care if your leg's getting crushed and your neck's a little strained.

I lost my virginity in a car.

It was my freshman year of college. I'd returned home during spring break and an old female friend of mine invited me to hang out at the mall for the evening. We went shopping, held hands, flirted, and by the time we got back to my car, we were making out. We moved into the front seats. I've had sex in cars a few more times since then. They remain awful venues. You can't move around, all positions are uncomfortable, and you risk some injury should one of you misplace a leg and tumble. The best sexual experience I've had in a car exclusively involved hands and oral. Cars are fine for fingering, blowjobs, and handjobs. Cunnlingus and penetration are possible, but you'd be better off finding somewhere less cramped to do them.

Agree with others. A lot of the time, your attention is on figuring out the most comfortable position than on your partner. And then beyond a point you just give up and do what the car allows you to do.
