With North Korea dominating the headlines out of Asia, not enough attention is being paid to major developments dealing with the South China Sea – the major cause of tensions in the larger Indo-Pacific region before North Korea started testing its long-range missiles and nuclear explosives. China recently placed advanced anti-ship missiles and air-defense batteries on islands it has built in the South China Sea – yes, China has built its own islands from almost nothing, using some of the world’s most advanced dredging technology. Just a cursory look at any map of Asia and one quickly realizes that whoever dominates the South China Sea dominates East Asia – largely negating Washington’s own role in the region

Why should the U.S. do anything about these disputed Islands as they fall under ASEAN Treaty and concerns only these countries?" Basically, only the Philippines, Vietnam and Taiwan are involved in this dispute. China has claimed all of the Islands in The South China Sea and have built bases on a lot of them and no other country have done anything to stop them. They want the US to fight their war with China, just like the Muslim countries.

Yes...with our allies. We should also work with Taiwan and provide them with protection. Sign a new protection treaty. China under Xi will not be a good long term trading partner and US companies should move manufacturing back to US and also to other countries like India, Mexico, Vietnam, Singapore, etc.

Should we perhaps hit China with sanctions? If we did they might demand payment on the notes they hold. This amount would equal selling New York, California and perhaps Cuba to them. Looking at it it might be a good deal. No federal debt and no democratic sinkholes, except Cuba, but even the Chinese would make like better in that land!
