BEIJING (Reuters) - China's retail sales grew 11.2 percent during the week-long Lunar New Year vacation compared with the same holiday period last year, Ministry of Commerce data showed on Saturday.

路透社北京：商务部周六发布的一份数据报告显示，春节长假期间中国的零售业销售额较去年同期上涨了11.2%

Revenues of retailers and catering firms grew to about 754 billion yuan ($115 billion) during the Feb 7-13 "Golden Week" holiday, a ministry statement said.

该报告中说，2月7日至13日的“黄金周”期间，零售业和餐饮业的销售额达到了约7540亿元人民币（1150亿美元）

The holiday is especially important for retailers, which vie for customers by launching promotions and discounts. Millions of people take time off work to travel and generally spend more than usual during the break.

What do you think would happen to a Chinese government official who reported 'bad numbers'? I seriously doubt the Chinese government has the ability to monitor and report retail sales so quickly and accurately days after a holiday. Even the US government can't do that. The initial sales reports for Black Friday, e.g., are estimates made by private companies doing surveys and even those take longer to compile!

For those who don't understand, the great concern about China was that it's no longer growing at 10 to 15 percent but 4 to 6 percent which is still a good economy but not good for their over valued stock market. When you all realize that the US economy is not headed for recession you'll be crying it's a false economy as the DOW heads for 20000. The only ones hurt are the oil producers.

Two things. 
1. China's economy grew by 6.5% over the past 12 months.
2. China's currency has been dued by 8% over the past 12 months.
