China and Russia have increased their security, economic and diplomatic relationship, complicating an already fragile Asia-Pacific region. Many analysts have viewed this enhanced collaboration as the beginning of a partnership set on destabilizing the Western-led order and diminishing the capacity for the United States to influence strategic outcomes in the region. But this line of reasoning affords primacy to the material components of Beijing and Moscow's newfound affection for each other, neglecting the salience of the historical and normative elements that inform their relationship.

Whether it is Russia in Ukraine, or China in the South China Sea, both have demonstrated a militaristic disposition to resolving their historical territorial grievances. According to one such view, “Russia and China are now competing to arm anti-democratic and anti-U.S. regimes in Latin America, and may be cooperating to help Nicaragua build a trans-ocean canal, which may yield port access for Russian and Chinese warships. Both countries actively support U.S. enemies in Syria and Iran.”

Americans should be thanking the Russians and Chinese for vetoing our UN resolutions on Syria. If we had listened to them on Iraq we would have had a few trillion dollars more in the bank and a few hundred thousand people (mostly civilians) less dead.

I think the chinese view the americans as enemies but they're still not decided on whether the issue will be solved through force or an internal decline of the US.The chinese know that in the long term good relations with the US cannot survive since the world is not big enough for two great powers with global interests.But at the same time they might say maybe we don't need to fight them maybe they'll collapse internally due to sheer incompetence and the world will be ours for the taking.The russians might also be split internally on were the US is headed with moderates probably hoping that the US will collapse internally and Russia will then be in a position to assert itself in its former sphere without any opposition and hard liners who view war as most likely inevitable.

Chinese, in general, view the Americans mainly as customer, investor, and competitor. Enemy status is reserved for the likes of Islamic radicals, pirates, separatists, etc.

The Russians and Chinese seem to have rational adults operating their foreign policies, while the Americans delegate theirs to ideological fanatics, corrupt lobby groups and office holders who are permanent intellectual adolescents.
