Earlier this year my neighbor returned from a trip to Germany and Italy. It was her first trip abroad and I was eager to hear her impressions.
So I asked what she thought. She sighed and tsk tsk'd, sighed again and said "I didn't like it." So of course I asked "Why not?"
"Germany people are so orderly." "Yes they are" I said. "But why was that a problem?"
She said "Well, they will stand there and wait until the light is green before they cross the street." "Yes, I said, but why is that a bad thing?" No response.
So I asked about Italy. "Oh, they are so lazy." "Really? I said, Can you give me an example of how?
"Well, they will sleep after they have lunch." "Yes, I said, some people do like to have a nap after lunch, but I know it is also common in China." "Well, she said, Chinese people are very hard working and must rest to work hard after lunch."
"Oh, I said. In China people nap after lunch because they are hard working, but in Italy people nap after lunch because they are lazy?"
"Yes" she said.

Generally, Chinese people sometimes talk for the sake of talking. And they like to judge. So they judge for the sake of judging and thus their claims lack any semblance of logic.

Many Han Chinese do believe that Han culture is superior and that Han Chinese are inherently more intelligent. However, a group of people believing that their culture is the best is certainly not unusual.
At very least, the majority of Chinese believe their culture is special and unique and that foreigners are incapable of understanding the subtlety and nuance of Chinese culture. This has been my experience.
Ironically, at times, Chinese perceive westerners to be very rude and lacking in tact. Barbarians if you will.

许多汉人坚信汉文化优越无比，认为汉人天生就更聪明。然而，某个人群认为自己的文化是最好的，这也无可厚非。
最后，大部分中国人认为他们的文化独特又唯一，外国人无法理解中国文化的精妙差异之处。这就是我的经历。

Of course I can't! What foreigner could possibly master the difficulties of moving two sticks in one hand to pick up food! That's as stupid as assuming a foreigner knows how to correctly say Nihao!

Some random Chinese man paid for my 20 kuai meal simply because I was using chopsticks well. So after he paid, I whipped out a second set and used them both at the same time, one in each hand, wondering what he'd do, but he did not seem to notice. That trick has never once worked for me because I don't think they can actually see me doing it, just like the dudes who can't hear you when you speak Chinese because they know so deeply that foreign can not speak the zhong wenz.

某个中国人为我支付了20块的饭钱，就因为我能很好的使用筷子。在他付钱后，我又抽出了一双筷子，所以两只手同时用筷子，看看他会怎么做，但是他貌似没有注意到。我的这个小把戏从来没有起作用，因为我认为他们貌似看不见我的这种技巧。就像一些家伙不会听你讲中文，因为他们很了解外国人根本不会说中文。

This is so frustrating, I have HSK lvl 5 but in 88.88% of cases when I open my mouth to say something in Mandarin the people around instantly claim they can't understand what I'm saying, like they don't even let me finish my phrase.
In Overseas Chinese communities, people have no problem at all to understand what I'm saying, never ask me to repeat anything.
Only in Mainland China this happens, I suspect this is also because every Mainlanders who claim to speak putonghua are liars, they speak in fact a mix of it with their nonghua dialect, no one here really speaks standard Mandarin.

这让人沮丧，我过了五级汉语等级考试，但是在88.88％的情况中，当我开口讲汉语，周围的人们立刻会说他们不知道我在讲啥什么，甚至他们不让我把话说完。
在海外中国人社群里，对于我讲什么他们都能听得懂，从来不会叫我在重复一遍。
只有在中国大陆才有这种状况。我猜那些声称自己讲普通话的大陆人都是骗子，他们事实上讲的是一种混合了方言的语言，这的人没有会讲标准普通话的。

Dude, in PRC I have to repeat everything 5 times and they still don't understand simple sentences. When they want to help me do something a brain-dead 2 y.o. could do, nothing I say can dissuade them. I go to Taipei and nothing like that EVER happens. They can listen for more than 4 syllables, the length of a chenyu. If I say, no thanks, I can wipe my own ass, they accept it immediately.
Of course it's not a genetic thing, lol, it's the mainland China social system. So bizarre.

伙计，在中国我必须重复五次才行，他们不明白简单的句子。当他们想帮我做两岁孩子都能做的事情时，我说什么都无法劝阻他们。。我去台北还从未发生过这种事情。他们能听的懂超过4音节的成语。如果我说，不用谢，我自己干，他们马上就能明白。

I know right, take this for example.
I use my Chinese name when ordering stuff online because my real name doesn't fit on the receipt in most cases. When the kuaidi guy calls me he has no problem at all understanding everything I say on the phone, like the guidelines on how to get closest to my building, probably because he assumes I am a Chinese too. Then when I get downstairs and have a few words with him while signing the receipt, he suddenly can't understand me so well anymore.
This is incredibly angering sometimes, they probably understand everything you say but at the same time their brain refuses to acknowledge the very idea that a foreigner can master their deep and mysterious tongue.

在网上买东西的时候我用中文名，》因为大多数情况下我的真名不适合下订单。快递员给我打电话，他完全能听明白我在电话里讲的，像如何到我家的路线。可能因为他认为我也是中国人。然后我下楼去签字时和他说了几句话，这时他就突然变得不是那么理解我所说的话了。
有时这令人恼怒，他们可能明白你所说的，但是同时他们的大脑拒绝承认老外能掌握他们深奥又神秘的语言。

Ugh, this reminds me of something my PRC teacher said in class. She said Taiwanese youngsters' Chinese are bad, they speak broken Chinese.

Their Mandarin is far superior to what I have heard for 10 years in Guangzhou from people all over the PRC.
