China is planning to scrap all limits on the number of children a family can have, according to people familiar with the matter, in what would be a historic end to a policy that spurred countless human-rights abuses and left the world’s second-largest economy short of workers .

The State Council, China’s cabinet, has commissioned research on the repercussions of ending the country’s roughly four-decade-old policy and intends to enact the change nationwide, said the people, who asked not to be named while discussing government deliberations. I think we might have already hit the limit as to how many people the earth can support, I half expect to see some kind of nature induced die off soon and bad as that sounds. Fact is nature has it's own way of taking care of over population and any species, and I don't think us people are the exceptions to that rule.

Sorry, you should have said one of the most SUCCESSFUL social experiments of all time. Despotic, human rights abuses, absolutely. But it also saved them from being India. It worked. Their population is still ridiculously immense, but they didn't end up spiraling up to 2, 3 billion people they could not feed dragging their whole economy down to the third world. Instead they controlled it, and have now emerged as the 2nd most powerful nation in the world. Now of course we'll see what the long term consequences look like, but in a changing world where robotics, A.I. and automation are increasingly eating up jobs formerly held by a human workforce, who knows if it will even matter how "grey" your workforce is in 30 years.
