Alibaba will no longer bring 1 million jobs to the US, citing tariffs

The standard Chinese billionaire doesn’t mind bringing their standard of worker living here. Not at all. Check out the auto glass manufacturer(Fuyao) who moved into the old GM plant in Dayton, OH. The assembly line that used to be filled with middle class Americans making a great wage for honest work is now filled with the working poor making minimum wage. And those people are happy to have that steady work.

It's alright, these tariffs are just a tax on the American people, basically forcing the lower income people who rely on cheaper chinese products to fund Trump's poor policies.

This is so frustratingly true. The prence of Walmart pisses me off personally because they really do have the best prices but the factors going in to reducing the costs are just not worth it, yet those on low incomes literally have to shop there because of its prence and affordability.

I was having a heated argument over this with some coworkers. I explained that there is simply no alternative that isn't significantly higher priced or doesn't have the wide selection Walmart has (the first that comes to mind is Fred Meyers, but they're much more expensive even though they have a similar selection.) I agree and am sympathetic with their affect on other similar chains as well as workers in their own chain, but I kinda rely on them. I think we could say the same for Amazon at this point but just as an online version. These two giants aren't going away any time soon, so what can we do as citizens who need their service, but only if it's at a price we can afford, which only they can offer? It's truly a tough conundrum we're in right now.

I think the 1 million jobs is an over-estimate. Everyone knows Alibaba only employs 40 thieves.

1m? So 1 in every 300 Americans was going to work for Alibaba? Because that seems unlikely.

That's not what was actually said. Here's what was said: Jack Ma said the company could create "1 million jobs over the next five years by enabling 1 million American small businesses and farmers to sell U.S. goods to China and Asian consumers on the Alibaba platform."

That was my first thought...Walmart hires about 1.5 million - which is Ameirica's largest employer.

the government is Americas largest employer

It's a million jobs created not a million people employed by them. Their goal was to help US small and medium enterprises export into China so Chinese consumers would buy more US goods and US companies can afford to expand. Keep in note the businesses they want are not the fortune 500 or even listed publically.
