Good question. Many people in the world don’t denigrate China and do respect China. This is especially the case with people who have been to China. I think most of the people who do denigrate China are those who feel comfortable wanting to believe that China is a potential foreign enemy. Those people are very ignorant.

Classic western civilization was not monotheist: the ancient Athens and ancient Roma. When Roma shifted from a Republic to an Empire, the culture changed from polytheist to monotheist. It was a millennium of Dark Age. The Renaissance was a rebel to the Dark Age and return to classic. Modern man was made by the Renaissance. Renaissance was supposed to promote humanism, yet the humanism is not thorough.

The Middle Age is a totalitarian society that religious doctrine becomes the coercive law. The religious “spirituality” suppressed the mundane desires. The social psyche was that the Super-Ego suppressed both Ego and Id. Renaissance is the historical period that shaped our modern man. The Renaissance movement, in the social psyche aspect, was a rebel of Ego and Id against the Medi Super-Ego. The ideological paradigm switched through Renaissance from religious spirituality to mundane individualism. The Renaissance Ego rebelled against the Medi Super-Ego using Id as a weapon. The naked bodies of the Renaissance sculptures or paintings are the positive confirmation of the Id desires. Renaissance emphasized the humanity on the Id aspect, alongside with the Ego aspect: reason and open-mind. The confirmation of Id desire was the weapon of Ego rebel the Medi Super-Ego. This weapon, in turn, becomes our capitalist ideology, and the Super-Ego of our society: individualism.

黑暗时代是一个毒菜社会，宗教教义成为强制法律。宗教的“精神性”超越了世俗愿望。社会心理上，超我镇压了自我和本我。文艺复兴运动其实就是自我和本我对中世纪超我的反抗。通过文艺复兴，思想范式从宗教精神性转向了世俗个人主义。文艺复兴的自我用本我来对抗中世纪的超我。文艺复兴时期的雕塑和绘画里所展示的裸替就是本我欲望的积极确证。文艺复兴强调的是本我层面的人性，还有自我的层面：理性和开放思想。而本我这个武器成为了我们的资本主义意识形态，以及我们社会的超我：个人主义。
