There's many similarities but also key differences between Vietnam and China, saying Vietnam is the next China economy has some truth to it, but I don't think so completely.Similarities:• Post Communist, socialist states which have opened up to free markets ever since reforms• Very similar political system (both have a Communist party)• Large populations• Rapid GDP growthDifferences:• China’s population is around 15 times bigger than Vietnam’s• Etc.

Vietnam has the same political structure as China, therefore it could learn from China’s growth experience without any pain.Vietnamese are highly influenced by Chinese culture, they believe in the fact that working hard can bring them prosperity. They are willing to learn and work hard the same as Chinese. Therefore there’s high chance that they will grow rich some day in the near future. As a Chinese, I would say that I do not like Vietnam that much because Vietnamese hate China due to their education system. And Vietnam was too aggressive (that’s probably a culture) in the past and the aggressiveness did hurt China’s interests & benefits. But this doesn’t mean that they cannot and should not become rich some day.Even Vietnam got rich, it will not have the same power and influence as what China economy have today due to the limited resources and population. It could be still a strong existence in SEA without any question.

Vietnam as a member of many major free trade areas in the world, with large area, diverse population, cheap labor and in the center of the three big Asian countries (China, India, Indonesia), offers major advantages. The economy of Vietnam is the 47th largest economy in the world measured by GDP (norminal) and 35th largest in the world measured by GDP(PPP). According to a forecast by PricewaterhouseCoopers, Vietnam may be the fastest-growing of the world's economies, with a potential annual GDP growth rate of about 5.1%, which would make its economy the 19th largest in the world by 2050.

No and never. China is more than a country, it’s a longest dominant superpower in the whole civil history. However Vietnam definitively has chance to become a developed and advanced country, like Japan now.The necessity conditions to be an economic superpower are LAND and PEOPLE living in that land. Roma, Mongol, Spain, UK, France, US, China, India had both but now only US, China, India can keep them. Russia, Brazil have land but not many people (maybe that change in the future?). German, Japan had land and people but for very short time during WWII.Now countries’ borders are and will be almost fixed so Vietnam can never be able to have more land than it has now, so never we will be an economic superpower. What we need is to become a developed and advanced country and able to defend our current land and sea, kind of S. Korea or Israel. It’s attainable but not easy at all.

Nope for its entirety, as China by now (or perhaps for a long time) have tapped into one of their most unique strength: Their scale. In another word, their 3rd-largest area and their largest population is slowly, but surely, become a distinct advantage rather than mainly a hurdle. This is something Vietnam could hardly considered equal or even similar. But yes, for how it start becoming a middle class nation.

No, that’s highly unlikely. China just happened to have the required resources to run a world-scale factory. Namely, the last huge deposits of easily extractable coal as well as metals, rare earth elements, etc. Pretty much the only thing they lack a great deal is petroleum.
