The national flag raising ceremony at Beijing's Tian'anmen Square marks the annual celebration of China's National Day of October 1st. This year is the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Over 100,000 Chinese citizens came from throughout the country to see this majestic ritual.
CGTN's Roee Ruttenberg spoke with Sourabh Gupta. Gupta is a Senior Fellow at the Institute for China-America Studies.

十月一日北京天安门广场举行升国旗仪式，以庆祝中国国庆节的到来。今年是中华人民共和国成立第69年，来自全国各地的超过10万中国人见证了这一庄严仪式。

We can just see some of the military commander coming out in this procession. We're seeing them now coming down the what's called the golden water bridge. It's on the north side of Changan Lu - the eternal peace street as it translates, many people are familiar of course with Tiananmen Square on the south side of that street and also the buildings that we see there and just beyong that north of that is the Forbidden City.

In China's diaspora community has really grown over years and there has been celebrations to mark China's National Day both here in the US and in places like South America in Peru. What do you make about the fact that China really now has this very global region, how might that change the dynamics of China's role in the world?

主：“中国的海外侨民群体多年来一直在不断发展，如今在美国这里，以及在像秘鲁这样的南美国家，到处都有庆祝中国国庆的活动。您如何看待今天的中国这一非常国际化的方面，它又将如何改变中国在国际关系中的角色和格局？”

"How would it change the dynamics of China's role in the world is that it'll have a window into understanding other people's cultures. At the end of the day China needs to work collaboratively from people all across the world, and its diaspora can be China's ambassadors in all these countries and continents of the world. And perhaps if it listens more to its own diaspora, it will be able to engage these countries in the way they wish to be engaged especially at a time when it's going out in such a big way with so many capital intensive projects. So I think it's an asset of course."

And we hear the music playing there "ode to the motherland" as those 96 soldiers return north to the tiananmen building there. You can hear the accompaniment by the military orchestra, and this was taken over by the PLA from police guard that was done as of January 1st changing the effect the structure of the ceremony... 69 years anniversary of the People's Republic of China.
