Military service is mandatory for both men and women in North Korea, which is why their army is so large numerically. In reality many of their soldiers have little to no equipment or weapons and a lot of them are literally just doing labor like building or maintaining roads.

But to be specific, the misinformation I was speaking about in this case is the perception that the army is underfed and North Koreans in general are starving. That is an outdated, and thus, a false idea on the current reality of NK.
