Stellar acting, greatplot, amazing cinematography.. everything you could ask for

I didn't expect to like this movie. The premise soundeddull and Feng Xiaogang was always known as a director rather than an actor. Soimagine my surprise when I thought to myself after the credits rolled that wow,this is definitely one of my favorites of 2015.
I love everything about it, I am familiar with Guan Hu as I have watched two ofhis films which I also liked and I thought this would be the first movie of histhat I would hate. Turns out it'd be one of his best.

本来没有料到我会喜欢这部电影的。电影的概述听起来很是乏味，再者冯小刚是作为一名导演而闻名的，而不是一名演员。所以你可以想象一下，在电影谢幕之后，我是何等的惊喜，简直就是：wow！这绝对是2015年我最喜欢的电影了。
喜欢这部电影的一切，我很熟悉管虎，因为之前看过他的两部电影并且比较喜欢，本以为这会是他的第一部让我厌恶的电影，结果却成了他最棒电影之一。

Well made drama. Don'tget mislead by IMDb category or description

I wanted to write a review just to let cinema goers knowthat this is a well made movie, with a lot to like about it - but action is notone of them - because quite simply there is none - ZERO. Now don't get mewrong, i love all sorted of Asian cinema, drama, action, martial arts andthriller, but i am sick & tired of being mislead. It shouldn't be in thecategory of action and whilst the trailers showed "glimpses and promisesof knives, swords and a few sensational stare downs" thats where the actionends. It was actually very well paced for the first half, but there is a scenein which the movie comes to a grinding halt and never recovers. It is a movieabout redemption, father & son relationships and Mr Six being a man ofprinciple which is rarely found in today's society. It was beautifully shot andacted, but shame what started out promising so much at a decent pace ended upgrinding to a halt and delivering none of the action it promises in descriptionor in the trailer.

Not an action movie by any means but an interesting dramaconcerning traditional values versus new free-market attitudes seen from theperspective of an older criminal element trying to deal with the new-money,corruption-based variety
The movie does a nice job of showing community life in the laid back oldhutongs that still exist in Beijing and while the plot is a little slow itdevelops well. Since this film was designed to appeal to a domestic audience alot of the nuance will be lost on foreigners. It emphasizes relationships,loyalty and honor in contrast to the quest for individual wealth, power andexaggerated regard of face.
Some ask "what's happened to Chinese cinema?" I guess the answer isthat it is booming and delivering a wide variety of product. If you want a bigbudget action film with lots of CG you'll find it in Mo Jin - The Lost Legend.I enjoyed Lao Pao Er more though.

从任何角度来说，这都不是一部动作片，而是一部关于传统价值观与新兴自由市场观念有趣而戏剧性的故事。从一个老一辈犯罪分子的角度，展现了其如何对付新兴的、基于金钱腐败犯罪分子的故事。
这部电影精妙地展示了北京仍然存在的悠闲老胡同里的社区生活，虽然情节有点慢，但是发展的很好。由于这部电影是为了吸引国内观众的，所以外国人观看这部电影的时候，可能会忽视其中许多细微的表情。这部电影强调了亲情、忠诚和荣誉，这与追求个人财富、权力和面子形成鲜明对比。
有人会问：“中国电影发生了什么？”我猜我的答案会是：它正在蓬勃发展之中，为观众提供各式各样的作品。如果你想看那种有大量CG场景的高预算动作电影，建议你去看《鬼吹灯之寻龙诀》，虽然我更喜欢《老炮儿》。

The movie whichTarantino should learn from.

Epic, of a slow burn kind of epic which does not rely onempty coolness. Unnecessary long, but which I did not regret having seen. Ithas does not excel in any aspect, it is no unforgettable masterpiece, but ittouches all the right chords, with its imperfection, with its mah moments, butsteadily, with no hurry, no noxious Hollywoodbullying narcissistic superiority.

一部昆汀·塔伦蒂诺都应该学习的电影
史诗级的，这是一部缓慢燃烧的史诗，不依赖于空洞的冷酷。全片有点太长了，不过我并不后悔看了这部电影。这部电影在任何方面都并非出类拔萃，它并不是一部令人难忘的杰作，但它却却能引起共鸣，它有不完美之处、也有悲哀之时，但剧情发展平稳、不紧不慢，没有好莱坞电影的那种欺凌自恋式的优越感。

Do not let you fool by the synopsis. This is no "Taken" (thanksGod!). It is not "if you will not let my son go I will find you and I willkill you". There is no trace of the typical American megalomaniactestosteronic super-cool hyper-heroism. There is just "an ordinarycitizen", who totally ordinary is not. Because he can teach a few values,although he is an ex gangster.
And I am not old enough to complain about the society of "today". ButI felt it very real, his complaints, the portrait he gives of our emptytimes...
I am having a hard time finding good movies. Stupid comedies, depressive drama,empty boom boom, hyper-sentimental moralistic bonbons, hyper-sadistic horrors,hyper-intellectual blabla... It seems that our society faces a severe lack ofcontents, and must put loads of extra sugar, extra salt, extra oil and energy,following the motto of Advertisings, "if you have nothing to say, say itloud".
Whatever I watch, it is boring. This was not.

不要被电影简介愚弄了，该片没有《飓风营救》的场面（谢天谢地）。这部电影不是那种“如果你不放我儿子走，我就会弄死你”的桥段。它与典型的美国式狂妄自大睾酮超冷酷、超英雄主义类型不同。这部电影里只有一个“普通公民”，也不是完全的普通吧，因为他可以传授一些价值观，虽然他之前是个恶棍。虽然以我的年龄，还没有资格抱怨“现今”社会，但是我觉得六爷的抱怨、以及他留给我们画面，都非常真实，
为了一部好的电影，我找得好苦。我找到的都是些愚蠢喜剧片、压抑沮丧的戏剧、空洞的繁荣、多愁善感的道德鸡汤、过度施虐的恐怖画面、以及高智商的无稽之这类妖艳贱货。。。我们的社会似乎面临着严重的内容匮乏，所以我们要不停的往里面加盐、加糖、加油加脉动，正应了那句广告行业的格言：如果你没什么可说的，那就扯着嗓子大声说。
不管我看的是啥，都很无聊，但这一部就不会。



A good film drags the audience in, makes the audience empathize and feel everyraw emotion of the characters. In this film, the character I was moved by onecharacter and it happens to be an unnamed ostrich. Jokes aside, the only femalelead was played wonderfully by Xu Qing, the character worked because heractions felt real. The title character Mr. Six was played well by leading manFeng Xiaogang, but I couldn't help but feel he was 2D at times.

好的电影可以将观众带入其中，让观众将感情代入到角色中去，感受人物的每一份原始情感。而在这部电影里，我也被一个角色感动了，恰恰是一只没有名字的鸵鸟。当然了这是玩笑话，该片唯一的女主角由许晴扮演，表演非常精彩，角色比较灵动因为她得表演让人觉得真实。领衔主演六爷演的也挺好，由冯小刚扮演。但我有时候会亲不自禁的感觉这是一部2D电影。

With cinematography of this standard, and this type of storyline the moviecould not possibly attract the attention of the younger population. So, itdecided to cast two of the hottest young actors, Wu Yifan and Li Yifeng. Voila!Teenage girls will go crazy! There's one down side though...they can't act!Wooden expressions, awkward delivery...sometimes the performances borderedridiculous. Yes, there were a few shining moments but all in all the youngercharacters were a failure. Heck, they even got one of the most popular"teen idol" groups to make a cameo! What happened to movies beingabout acting...
The take-home message here is that this is a great ideasqueezed inside a small container, it tried to be personal, but it wasn't, ittried to be epic, but it wasn't that either. It seemed like the ending of thefilm tried to be both...it ended up making me want to retreat into my seat andnever come out again.

由于该片的电影制作标准，加上这种类型的故事情节，导致这部电影不太可能吸引到年轻人的注意。因此，导演决定塑造两名最热门的年轻演员，也就是吴亦凡和李易峰。哇！少女们会疯掉的。。。而这两位年轻演员不懂怎么表演，木讷的表达、拙劣的表演风格。。。有时候他们的表演简直无聊到可笑。是的，也有一些闪光时刻，但是总体而言年轻演员是失败的。该死的，他们甚至找了一支最受欢迎的“青少年偶像”团体来客串！电影的表演究竟发生了什么啊？
这部电影的核心教义，有点类似一个很好的主意被塞进了一个小小的容器里，它试图表现得个性鲜明，但却没有做到；它也试图成为史诗，不过也失败了。而电影的结局似乎试图二者兼顾，结果让我直想缩进座位里再也不想出来看它一眼。



The storyline later turned out to be more ridiculous when he tried to meet thegangsters from the other side. So pretentious gestures in his preparationbefore the final encounter: shaving his hairs, putting up an old green militarylong coat, long boots and then, taking out a Japanese Katana, riding a bikethrough the Beijing streets, with an escaped ostrich aside all along.....These,are all parts of the prolonged to the extreme unnecessary scenes, so overlycontrived to certain unbearable limit. And then, what we got is nothing butmucho thunders, not even thunderbolts, albeit rains.
This movie is just too Chinese to be appreciated by any other country'sviewers. Even to the Chinese who did not grow up in Beijing would have a quitetough time to sit through the whole nine yards if the dialog in Chinese didn'tkeep interpreting with ( ) to make them understandable. A very contrite andpretentious, sometimes even quite shallow movie. Not too bad, but definitelynot great either. Watchable, but need some patience to sit through.

而当他试图与外界的黑帮会面的时候，故事情节变得愈发荒谬。在最后一次对决之前，他做出如此自命不凡的姿态：剃掉胡须、穿上绿色军大衣、穿上长靴、然后拿出一把日本武士刀，骑着自行车在北京穿街过巷，身边伴随着一只逃跑的鸵鸟。。。所有的这些，都是一些极度不必要的拖延场面，因此该片的过分策划，达到了一种难以忍受的程度。然后，我们毛线也没看到，就听到几次雷声，甚至闪电也没有，更别说雨滴了。
这部电影太中国化，无法被其他国家的观众所欣赏。即使是对于那些不是在北京长大的中国人来说，如果演员之间的对话不一直采用括弧来进行注释、让观众明白对话的含义，那么要坐在整整九码之外也是一件相当困难的事。

Excellent Movie!

This movie is really a cultural thing and it's for thepeople that grew in Beijing. Gladly, I am. Even a lot of Chinese people can'tunderstand it since it contains a lot of Beijing dialect. As a guy born inBeijing and lived there for 15 years. I can't understand all the dialect in themovie. So it is impossible for foreigners to have a perfect experience on thismovie since the dialect is the part that makes it a good movie (unless you'rereally good at Chinese and actually lived in Beijing for many years).

非常棒的电影
这部电影说实话是一种关于文化的东西，它是为在北京长大的人准备的。很高兴，我就是北京人。甚至很多中国人也无法理解这部电影，因为它包含了大量的北京方言。作为一个在北京出生并居住了15年的北京人，我都无法听懂电影中所有的北京方言。所以外国人不可能在这部电影上获得完美的观影体验，因为该片中的方言，也是让它成为佳片的一种因素。（除非你的汉语真的很溜，而且在北京居住了多年）

Wow how bad can it get?

I had no idea what this movie was about or seen any ofthe trailers before going into this film so it really was quite a pureexperience. From the first scene I was looking forward to the story and therest of the movie.
Unfortunately what I experienced instead was a terrible movie going experiencethat I don't think has been or will be bested. If I wasn't with others I wouldhave walked out about halfway through.
What's wrong with this movie? Where do I begin? Scenes that should be short aredrawn out for no reason at all. There are shots and plot elements they spendheaps of time on and turn into absolutely nothing. The story is so simple thatyou could write it in 2 sentences and yet they make you think its some greatand amazing thing they have concocted.
I think it does appeal to Chinese people a lot though since it has many famousstars in it. But if you look past that and just try to see it as a movie it istruly a great disaster.
The worst part of all was the ending. No meaning behind it, extremely forced,no emotion. What happened to Chinese cinema? I cry every time when watchingHero and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Now I have to put up with movies likethis. 2 hours felt like 2 weeks.
In reality it probably is a 3/10 but since there are obviously so many fakeratings and hype I wish I could give it a 0/10.

在看到这部电影之前，我完全不知道这部电影是关于什么的，也没有看过预告片，所以这是真是一段很纯粹的观影经历。从第一幕开始，我就在期待故事的后续以及余下的部分。
但不幸的是，我经历的是一场可怕的电影演出，我认为再也不会有其他电影比这个还恶心了。如果不是跟别人一起看的电影，我觉得我会提前离场。
这部电影是什么鬼？我该从哪里看起？那些应当简短处理的镜头被无缘无故的拉长了，有一些镜头和情节元素，他们花了大量时间去拍摄，然而却是空洞无用的东西。故事非常简单，用两句话就可以形容完毕，但这部电影却让你觉得这是他们精心炮制的伟大而惊人的故事。
不过我觉得它确实很能吸引中国人，因为这部电影里面有很多明星。但如果你回想一下、试着把它看成一部电影，那绝对是一场灾难。
而最垃圾的就是结局，结局没有任何意义，极度的尬演，没有情感。中国电影怎么了？每次看《英雄》和《卧虎藏龙》的时候我都能看哭，而现在我竟然要忍受这种电影？2个小时感觉过去了2个星期。
事实上，该片可能是3分左右，但是，由于很明显这部电影有大量虚假上座率和炒作，我希望能给它一个0蛋。
