What is it like for an Indian to live and settle down in Japan?

Manish, lives in Japan
Hello Everyone,
This is my first post on quora.I will reply to this post since this is related to an Indian and as also i feel that often Japan has been portrayed in either incorrect or partial way by people who have not really lived here as a full-time/permanent member of the society.

I hope my response would be taken positively.
I will categorically describe my opinion :

There are 3 types of foreigners coming to Japan.
a. Short term visitors(less than a year) : Tourists,business visitors,exchange students etc.
b. Medium term visitors(1 to 3-4 years) : Overseas subsidiary staff for training,Staff hired from overseas for skills,Trainee scheme workers(Chinese,Filipinos,Brazilian,S.E asians etc),Staff dispatched from parent company overseas for onsite projects etc
c.Long term/Permanent residents( more than 3 -4 years): These are the people who have already been here for quite a while, speak the language, know the culture by means of trying their best to assimilate, may have Japanese spouse, have experience of hopping jobs and are generally used to living here by making willing or unwilling adjustments.

If you fall in category a and b (except trainee scheme people) I can say that you will have the some of the most memorable and best time of your life. This is because your Japanese counterparts want you to go back to your country to support the business and also wish that you take a great image of Japan and its people back with you.You probably will see the most exotic hospitality if you fall in the above category.Regarding trainee scheme workers, god save them from suicides!!

.
Apart from the prejudices mentioned above(irrespective whether you are good or bad) some of foreigners often can be arrogant and inconsiderate Also, language and other cultural difference additionally can make life difficult. Some of them make least effort to learn language and culture.

I suggest to read about terrie llyod article-he is owner of largest bilingual job site in Japan.

I got so used to hearing 'you gaijins bring bad things to our country' from friends, far-away relatives, and colleagues (I am not working now) that now I ignore and turn deaf ear to such comments about foreigners.....Dislike and mistrust of gaijins is deep rooted....
Of course, the younger generation is more open...So hopefully there is some hope for equal opportunities (job wise) for gaijin in years to come....But I do not see it in near future.
This is my honest opinion. I love Japan in spite of all this. Well my base is here now, so....
Best wishes...

Discrimination might exists everywhere, just as you would find social justice in India as normal because you lived and grew up there an average Japanese also feel normal in such condition.however,an alien coming from overseas might find it shock.

After traveling to several countries and having lived in few i personally feel that people are same everywhere its just that they show good and bad in different domains of life.

Thanks for reading this long article.

P.S :
I know some people who have been here for short time and any Japanese person might think i am trying to attack Japan.I have no intention in doing so - I want to share some reality so in-case if someone who is coming here for his career advancement should have correct perspective.I love Japan as a country and admire the culture which led to it success. However, simply projecting Japans surface to a prospective immigrant is unfair to him.
