I visited Taiwan in October 2018 with some friends. I have been to Taiwan about six years earlier and I abusolutely fell in love with it. I even wrote an answer on Quora about how tourists need to look past the shanty buildings of Taiwan to appreciate its many beauties.

2018年10月份我和朋友去台湾玩了下。6年前我已经去过一次了，大爱。我甚至在本站上写了一篇文章呼吁大家忽视台湾建筑的破旧，应该去欣赏台湾的很多美。

However this time things are much more dire. I love chatting with taxi drivers where ever I travel, here are the differences between my two trips:

Aside from conversations, the despair is evident and plenty. The skyline of Taipei barely changed at all from my last trip - hardly the norm for a Chinese city. The same sewer smells still permeates the streets of Ximending - an unpleasant reminder that Taipei is now dirtier than many if not most teir one and two Chinese cities.

除了这些对话，到处都弥漫着绝望的气息。6年前到现在，台北的天际线几乎没有变化，这对一个中国城市来说可不是常态。西门町的臭水沟还在，这让人想起台北现在比很多中国一二线城市还脏。

Perhaps the most tell tale sign of a collapsed tourism sector is when we visited a desolated attraction. It was a park focused around a suspension bridge over a valley near Taichung. We were shocked to find the entire place is overgrown with shrubs. All the facilities other than the main bridge are closed. Aside from a bus of elderly residents, we were the only tourists there. This place was recommended to us as one of the main attractions close to Taichung. We can't help but feel bad for the local population whose livelihood once depended on this park.

The DPP failed the local election two months ago. There has been power reconstruction inside the party and the cabinet. KMT won the said election to a degree surprised everyone. Now everyone is aiming at the 2020 presidential election and the 113 seats of law makers as well.

民进党两个月前输掉了地方选举。党内和内阁都进行了权力重组。国民党大胜，让所有人感到吃惊。现在大家都在瞄准2020大选，以及113席的立法委员选举。

The real ‘uncertain’ facter affects Taiwan is the CCP of PRC. They promote ‘one China two systems’ but Taiwan doesn't buy it.

影响台湾的真正不确定因素是大陆。他们推行一国两制，但是台湾不买账。
