@Alan Tan Let me recall something in the past. I was born in 1950. In my early school years, our Chinese surname was Wang and, for my mom Chen. I used this surname until I was in the fourth grade (9 years old). That was in 1959. It was the time when a western nation (you should know which nation) heavily launched the anti-communist campaign targeting at China. Then, the Thai government, being its vassal state, participated in this campaign by forcing every Chinese family to switch from using its Chinese surname to that in Thai. Surat is my name as Pongpipatpanich is my family name. Nowadays, if I want to alter to Wang, it is not illegal. But almost none of Chinese wants to do that in order not to self alienate in the Thai society.

@Alan Tan，跟你讲讲我记忆中的事吧。我出生于1950年。在我上小学的时候，我姓的是中国“王”姓，我母亲姓陈。这个姓氏我一直用到小学四年级（9岁），即1959年。这一年，一个西方国家（你应该知道是哪个）开始大力发动针对中国的反共运动。然后，泰国政府作为其附庸，参与了这场运动，并强迫每个中国家庭放弃中国姓氏而转用泰国姓氏。“苏拉特”（surat）成了我的名字，而“彭皮帕坦尼克”（pongpipatpanich）就是我后来的姓了。如今，如果我要改回“王”姓，也并不违法，但这里几乎没有一个华人这么做，因为担心会在泰国社会里自我疏离。
