There are many pumped-up pseudo-patriots in India who blindly claim (which is very common in here) that there are almost 40% Indians who work at NASA(I've heard some even claims there are 50%!), which is just another failed attempt of us Indians trying to grab the limelight.

I agree with Satyajeet completely. And many of the posts here. It is around 3%. There are loads of pseudo patriots who jack up such figures. They desperately look for an "Indian" connection in big corporates or organizations. So even if a American NASA scientist farts in India while visiting this country, those pseudo patriots would try to link that up as an "Indian" connection someway or the other! And I have seen many examples like that. It reminds me of one. We know about "Bose" acoustics. He has a Bengali/Indian last name (cuz his father was a Bengali) and Bengalis tend to think that he is Bengali/Indian and boast about it. Heck he has nothing to do with Bengal or India other than his last name. Why should we feel proud of him as an Indian or a Bengali? Just because he has a Bengali/Indian last name? He studied in MIT, grew up in USA, had an American mother, opened his business in USA and spent his entire life there. Yeah I say that being a Bengali myself. And why should we be more concerned about Indian scientists in NASA? Our ISRO or DRDO scientists are doing a great job.

~ 0% (Zero) - as others have stated, to be a NASA Civil Servant you MUST be a US citizen, and as an Indian can't achieve this without renouncing their Indian citizenship, the answer is obvious (The Times of India should really know better).

Also as others have stated, [sub]contractors do not necessarily need to be a US citizen, as long as they have a suitable visa and have been granted security clearance, but I've been unable to find any reference to any Indian Citizenbeing granted this clearance, or the name of any Indian citizen employed by NASA, so 0% is likely far closer to the truth than the 36% suggested by the Times of India.
