SAN ANTONIO DEL TACHIRA Venezuela (AP) — More than 100000 Venezuelans some of whom drove through the night in caravans crossed into Colombia over the weekend to hunt for food and medicine that are in short supply at home.

From a thriving economy and country to this in just a few years that is what socialism gives you. The hard working people of the country have given up and either left or got on the government gravy train which is now broke. We as a country are not far behind and with more and more of our politicians promoting themselves by offering free stuff we will go down this way also. Many of our prosperous citizens are leaving the country because they can see the socialism handwriting on the wall. And it is not good.

As the article alludes they are basically buying back their own goods. Due to artificial currency exchange rates and generous subsidies on certain goods many people find it far more profitable to buy goods in Venezuela and sell them elsewhere. It would have eventually stabilized at a price point but the artificial currency exchange rate ensured it was always more profitable to smuggle and such.Venezuela took an economic bubble that should have popped years ago and kept inflating it because every administration just kept saying "As long as it's not on my watch." without actually caring that it was getting worse.
