So I was walking with my Chinese friend and we were approached by an old couple. They wanted us to buy noodles for them (???) kinda strange.

My friend said that they might be kidnappers and either sell us as wives in the countryside or have us killed and sell our organs. They take you into a shop and then people inside ambush you.

Well they asked her not me. I’m assuming though that if she had said yes...like...they wouldn’t take one person’s organs and not the other’s probably but Idk.

I asked a friend why she won't get a part-time job near campus. She said her mother forbid her from leaving campus due to the area having a high concentration of human trafficking. One other friend wanted me to buy her some pepper spray the next time I go back to the States.

A Chinese here. I can’t say for sure whether this comic is true or not but I have personally been approached by an old couple with a non local accent asking for food. It happened for more than once. I didn’t know whether they were scammers human traffickers or genuine hungry people but the whole scenario seemed too weird and I just ignored them. They claimed that they were looking for their son and ran out of money but it doesn’t seem plausible for an old couple to go to a Province far from home to look for their son but don’t even know vaguely where he is and don’t bring enough money; in the rare case that this does happen it is not a good strategy to approach random schoolgirls and ask for food. (Both time it happened in a school campus and they seem to be targeting woman). Also while not common human trafficking is a thing in China. There are some extremely rural villages where young woman try to marry out and young man buy “wives” from human traffickers. The “wives” are basically treated like sex slaves. There is a movie on this called 盲山 (Blind Mountain)

中国人在此。我不确定这事是真的还是假的，但是我个人曾经被一对操着外地口音的老夫妻搭讪要食物。这种事情发生不止一次了。我不知道他们是骗子、人口贩子还是真的是肚子饿的人，但是整个场景看起来太过奇怪，我就无视他们了。他们称他们在找自己的儿子，但是钱用完了。但是一对老夫妇离家到很远的省份去找不知道在哪的儿子，却不带够钱，这种说法不那么可信。很少会有这样的事情发生。随机接近一个女学生要食物不是一个好办法。（两次都发生在校园，他们好像以女性为目标）。此外，虽然不常见，但人口贩卖在中国确实是个问题。有很多偏远的乡村，年轻女性都嫁到外面去了，村里的年轻男子就只能从人贩子那里买“老婆”。这些“老婆”基本上被像性奴隶一样对待。有一部关于这个的电影叫《盲山》。

Probably just scammers unless you look Asian in general foreigners would be harder to deal with and more dangerous.

Foreigners will get targeted when they appear rich of course someone will be thinking about how to pump some money out of them but old people it would probably just be scammers. How exactly does it go from food to walking alone down a dark alley?

No need to suspect anyone just stay by an iron rule not to step into any strange place with a stranger. Always stay at a well known public area and you should be fine.

Also don’t hang out too late at night or make sure that you have more than one friend be with you. Don’t use didi （滴滴打车）at late night either.
That comic is not that wired... I’ve seen some more weird. Remember the plot was like this: a couple saved a girl from kidnapping by a man and just when the girl was feeling grateful to them they took advantage of it and kidnapped her. It turned out that the couple and the man planned this together.
Not sure if you met kidnappers but being careful is good

Yeah common sense is good.
That comic sounds even weirder. I just meant that with the comic I posted the girl didn’t seem too wary especially after the couple wouldn’t accept her money and instead to her to this sketchy-looking alley.

I heard that too from my wife's cousin's brother in law's dog who once shat in front of a store and heard the clerk talking to his mother in law's sisters daughters friend that it happened to a family friend of theirs.
