Alibaba's (BABA) executive chairman Jack Ma is never short of big ideas.

Ma chose chose Detroit Michigan over New York Las Vegas and Los Angeles to host its biggest conference ever in the U.S. this week.
 
本周，马云在底特律举行了该公司在美国的最大会议，而没有选择纽约，拉斯维加斯或者洛杉矶。

The conference is called Gateway '17 and is teaching entrepreneurs small businesses and farmers about the Chinese economy and about how they can grow their businesses by selling on Alibaba's platforms.

Here are some of Ma's biggest quotes from his keynote address on Tuesday evening. One standout was Ma saying Alibaba will so sell so much stuff by the year 2035 it will generate the equivalent in GDP to be the fifth largest economy. Ma also said he was preparing for retirement.

You're insane if you think any American farmer or small business stands a snowball's chance in the Chinese discount market. MIGHT work if the dollar completely collapses and American goods become price competitive but we have bigger problems if that happens.

If Alibaba is going to become "the Fifth Largest Economy in the World" by 2035 then Jack Ma should not have any problems preparing a military coup to overthrow the Chinese Communist Central Government in China. You can't be that big and are still taking order from them.

It's amazing the way big investors love this type of bravado. It really stirs up their greediness to hear this type of BS talk. Honestly what sort of greedy person doesn't want to hear about their company gobbling up so much revenue and profits? The only problem is that this BS talk doesn't always pan out. I've seen too many companies talking big and in the end accomplishing very little and falling way short of their goals. By 2035 there could be all sorts of disasters and setbacks including a world war which would throw everything off-kilter. I probably won't live to see 2035 so it really doesn't matter to me. All I know it seems like a relatively long time from now to be making such lofty claims. I guess a person really has to be hungry to make such a claim so far into the future. Anyway I guess it's a quick way to get investors to pour money into his company as I'm sure the big boys want to reap as much wealth as they can as soon as they can.
