By Idrees AliWASHINGTON (Reuters) - Two Chinese fighter jets intercepted a U.S. Navy surveillance plane over the East China Sea at the weekend with one jet coming within about 300 feet (91 meters) of the American aircraft U.S. officials said on Monday.

据路透社华盛顿报道 美国官员在周一表示 周日 两架中国战机在中国东海上空拦截了一架美国海军侦察机  其中一架中国战机距美国侦察机大约仅300英尺(91米) .

The officials speaking on condition of anonymity said initial reports showed one of the Chinese J-10 aircraft came close enough to the U.S. EP-3 plane on Sunday to cause the American aircraft to change direction.

不愿具名的美国官员说  初步报告显示其中一架中国歼10战机贴近美国的EP-3侦察机，迫使该侦察机不得不改变航向。

One of the officials said the Chinese jet was armed and that the interception happened 80 nautical miles (148 km) from the Chinese city of Qingdao.

其中一位官员表示当时中国战机携带了武器 拦截地点距离中国青岛80海里处(148公里).

The Pentagon said that the encounter between the aircraft was unsafe but added that the vast majority of interactions were safe.

Incidents such as Sunday's intercept are relatively common.

In May two Chinese SU-30 aircraft intercepted a U.S. aircraft designed to detect radiation while it was flying in international air space over the East China Sea.China closely monitors any U.S. military activity around its coastline.

Our pilots need more latitude in handling these situations. Get permission to fire before they even take off. I know the EP-3 is mostly electronic surveillance but can't they be outfitted with powerful ECM capability? It would be great if our pilots could scramble the control electronics of any nearby enemy aircraft without affecting their own plane.

ECM would bring the #$%$ planes down. The EP-3 can hear the conversation in a land phone line from 300 miles away and the US has the power to decrypt very heavily encrypted data.
