What can you buy with 1 yuan in China?

take bus once in secondary cities.
a piece of hot-dog in secondary cities.
a piece of bread in Shenzhen.
half a bottled water in guangzhou.
This banknote will get out of markets for its low purchase power, and I am so sorry to see that.
will RMB /CNY get out of market for its increasing low purchase power ? God damn RMB/CNY.
someone is printing and printing, the other ones are working and working. this is China model.

I think it depends on where you are.
The answer would be different when talking about different cities.
As we all know, China is a vast country and the situations of every cities may be different, like GDP and CPI.
However, there are some websites that you could find some stuff and the price is the same wherever you are.

This depends where you are.
In Shanghai these days 1 kuai doesn't buy you much at all.
It will cover half a bus ticket, one-third of the cheapest subway ticket, two-thirds of a pork baozi, maybe half of the cheapest local brand ice lolly, seven-eighths of a bottle of Nongfu Spring water or half a fried egg added to your noodles or rice.
You could get two plastic bags at the supermarket though at 5 mao a pop.

Carol Hilton, 10+ years Taobao shopping experience
You can hardly buy anything with 1 yuan these days.
Maybe 5 gums or candies.
A bus ticket usually costs 2 yuan, one middle steamed bread costs 1 yuan.
Maybe some vegetables like Cabbage radish you can buy 500g at 1 yuan sometimes, mostly time they are over 1 yuan.
A newspaper costs 1 yuan.
In short, I can hardly find out something cost around 1 yuan as it rarely buy anything in China now.

In China, prices of food, transportation, clothing and housing are really cheap except some metropolis like Shanghai, Beijing, and Shenzhen.

Food: Rice and flour which are staple food in China are around 2–3 yuan per jin(500g).g. Seasonal vegetables are really cheap and sometimes less than 1 yuan per jin. Pork which Chinese people mostly eat is around 10 yuan per jin. But beef and lamb are usually 3 times the price of pork.

Transportation: Bus fee is always 1 yuan with unlimited distance in urban area. Subway is charged according to the distance but the maximum is around 9–12 yuan. Bike sharing is mostly 1 yuan per hour.

Housing and clothing is far more expensive than 1 yuan and I can hardly provide you with suitable samples.

But I can show you some more articles you can buy in Chinese supermarket:
