Well US is an opportunistic pig. Having said that, in current scenario, US will say all the right things supporting India but will not do anything to harm its already strained relationship with China.

In the event of India-China war, there are few allies India can count on any day of the year: -

Israel - It will provide intelligence, weapons and support packages to India.

Japan - Japan will provide financial assistance and may be weapons/support package to aid and assist India. Japan may also mobilise its massive Navy to threaten China. Having said that, Japan is too small a country to challenge China’s massive economic and military might. However, any attack on Japan will soon bring US into the mix.

France - France, along with Israel, has been a long time ally and a true friend of India. It will provide intelligence, weapons and support packages to Indian forces.

Iran & Afghanistan - Although, both Iran and Afghanistan can do very little to help India in its war with China. However, both can deter Pakistan from opening any western front war with India. Make no mistake, Pakistan will mobilise its armed forces and terrorist network to open 2nd/3rd front war with India on J&K/Punjab border and Rajasthan/Gujarat Border. India can be rest assured that, both Iran and Afgnishtan will deploy their forces on Eastern and Southern border to deter Pakistan from any opportunistic adventurism.

Russia - Although, India’s relations with Russia has seen some turbulent times but Russia has been one of the strongest ally. Currently, Russia and China have massive trade network and they have mutual dislike for US and western world, however, Russia is also under tremendous threat from rising China. Russia eastern provinces are full of illegal Chinese. China has been ripping Russian arms and reverse engineering everything from fighter jets to ships to missiles to missile defence systems. India can expect all out support from Russia right from weapons to ammo to support packages to naval support. India might also get lucky with Russia stationing its troops on Southern border with China.

Vietnam - India and Vietnam relations are on the rise. Indian oil companies are exploring oil in South China Sea for Vietnam. India is supplying arms and ammo to ‘nam. India can expect considerable help from ‘nam in terms of intelligence and logistical support.

USA - To tell you the truth, I am not fully convinced that USA is India’s ally. They are making all the right noises and projecting all the right moves but deep down Indian govt. knowns that US cannot be trusted at crucial times. US shut down GPS during Kargil war fully aware of Pakistan’s misadventure. Moreover, US drafted cease-fire accord made sure Pakistan goes Scott-free and Indians looked like aggressor. If not from Narendra Modi, US would have had its way with ceasefire. Narendra Modi drafted the new ceasefire which made sure Pakistan is the aggressor and India is defending its territory.

USA may help India with intelligence directly but anything more needs to seems. They may also help India indirectly (thru Israel or other countries) with weapons, arms and ammunition and not to mention logistics, however, chances for that are next to nil.

On a separate note, it will be grave mistake for China to go to war with India. Apart from economic costs, it is one war China cannot win. China thinks India is like other South/East Asian countries. They forget India has the 2nd largest standing army. India and China may  4000Kms long border but majority of it is very high altitude and unpassbale mountains, jungles and gorges. There are handful of high mountain passes thru which China and India can fight war and all of it have been fortified with artillery and armoured divisions supported by Army aviation corps and Indian Airforce. A special mountain warfare corps with about 120,000 men have been specially raised for China.

China will have to commit over 500,000 men to war with India through a few high altitude mountain passes where numbers count for nothing. Chinese Navy will have to cross a very narrow channel called Malacca strait to come any where near Indian waters but then India has tri-service command centre at Nicobar Island over seeing Malacca strait. Indian Navy and Airforce will make Malacca strait a graveyard of Chinese Navy.

Lot of question will be raised about Chinese Airforce being superior to India but then fact is Chinese airforce is untested while Indian Airforce is battle hardened. China is 4 times bigger than India, and it will have to commit over 70% of its airforce against India in high mountainous region leaving rest of the country and its new SCS islands defenceless, which it cannot afford.

I am not including missiles as any missile strike against Indian cities & civilians will be retaliated with full nuclear response. And nobody wins Nuclear Wars. It doesn’t matter whether you have 1 or you have 10,000. Besides, I still believe Chinese leadership is sensible enough not to target Indian cities & civilians.

But the United States is on India as if they can assist someone against China. The rise of China is totally not in favor for the USA all cost
So, it takes no one seriously, but India will receive American weapons and… US troops combat on Indian side against China as well.
Same go if China went to wars, enemies of China are US’ allies

IMO we would support china, India is not as attached as they would like to be.

however Patrick is absolutely correct that at first we would try and mediate from a position of willful ignorance.

In my opinion, I think the US will officially maintain a neutral position and encourage both sides to settle peacefully. While the war will likely be localized to the Himalayan Mountain Range, the conflict will have global economic repercussions.

我直觉上认为美国会在官方层面上持中立态度并敦促双方进行和平谈判。当战争扩大成喜马拉雅地区战争时全球经济都会被影响。

Unofficially, I think there is an outside chance that the US may provide some covert assistance in the form of intelligence. But again, just an outside chance and this is more of a gut feeling than anything else.

No country will support India sending troops to spare with ..they will see their interests are not subdued..and as far as USA is concerned all their 54 states are different in Policies and addictions so how can and on what platform will they support except selling some more toys of weapon to the bigboys..sk/India

The United States will support India, because India is willing to do a pawn in the United States, but India needs to pay the economic meltdown and the division of the country into the price, this is a good deal. However, the support of the United States is only a verbal expression of support.
