The last time I looked it up in 2015 China had about 650000 foreigners living in China. So how many foreign passport holders are now living in China in 2017? I doubt the numbers have increased at all since many more foreigners have left and are leaving compared to those who are arriving. Why are there such few foreigners? In Japan there are over 2.3 million foreigners living there while tiny South Korea has over 2 million foreigners. So why does China which is a much larger country have such a tiny foreign population compared to its neighbors? I'm not talking here about foreign tourists I'm talking about foreign residents living long term in China. Are the numbers wrong and the Chinese authorities doing a lousy job of counting or is there something that I'm missing?

Add other Europeans as well. Sweden is going to shit and 90% of my graduating class has plans to emigrate mostly to USA but many thousands of Swedish people have moved to China as well in the last few years. The average Swede can triple their disposable income in China so it makes sense.

I could write a lot about it but basically it's socialism and a big influx of refugees caising the big problems. Stagnating wages is another part chinese passed us a few years ago (adjusted for purchasing power and in many cases nominal salary). If you lack any drive or motivation and wants to just collect welfare then its a decent country perhaps....

Maybe he means Chinese wages for Swedes with technical skills who have good command of English. You forget that ~95% of Swedes have almost native English fluency and coupled with the fact that Sweden offers some of the world's best public education around (all the way up to the university level) I don't doubt at all that Swedes can make a boatload in China as there is still a huge shortage of qualified professionals in China. Although Swedish schools aren't very well known but a degree from Uppsala University or Karolinska Institutet is probably better than a degree from a comparable school say Ohio State (which is a solid above average mid tier American university).

Most people only make around 20k USD/year and these people vote left because they can get "free" healthcare and education. There is a brain drain going on since many professionals pay >60% marginal taxes + 25% VAT. Also all immigrants vote left so they can keep their benefits and the politicians know this so they cater to these groups.
I've given up since there isn't a single party left that wants to lower taxes to a reasonable level. Just easier to emigrate and make 3x more in China (at least).
