Accordingto a Chinese military spokesman, China's first stealth fighter, the ChengduJ-20, has officially entered service with the People's Liberation Army AirForce. First revealed in 2011, the J-20 is only the third stealth fighter toenter service with any air force, after the F-22A Raptor and the F-35 JointStrike Fighter.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Defense, Senior Colonel Wu Qian, made the announcementon September 28th in Beijing. The aircraft was known as the J-20 duringdevelopment, but the operational aircraft is apparently called the J-20A. Thismirrors the development of the F-22 Raptor, which was labelled the F-22A Raptorwhen it entered service with the U.S. Air Force in 2005.
China's development of the J-20A goes back to the late 1990s,when the government decided to begin work on a large, twin engine fighter. Thefirst leaked photos of the aircraft appeared in December 2010, and the fighterwas finally sighted in early January 2011 at Huangtianba airfield. U.S.intelligence expected the J-20A would enter service in 2018.
TheJ-20 has had a very public development period, with at least seven prototypesappearing over the last six years, often with subtle but importantimprovements. The fighter's nose shape, canopy, air intakes, and wheel doorswere all altered and improved. Engineers added radar-absorbent paint to furtherreduce the J-20's radar signature. An infrared search and track sensor wasadded, which uses infrared cameras to detect, identify, track and ultimatelyshoot at enemy aircraft with infrared guided missiles.
Yet another addition was a distributed aperture system (DAS), aseries of cameras mounted on the airplane that allows the pilot to"see" in all directions using a 4K cockpit display. The only other fighterwith a DAS is the F-35.
The official role of the J-20A is unknown, but it is most likelymeant as a long-range fighter. The airplane stores all of its weaponsinternally to preserve its radar-evading shape, and has three internal bays: one large bay for up tosix PL-12 beyond visual range air-to-air missiles, roughly the same as theAmerican AIM-120 missile, and two smaller bays with one short range air-to-airmissile each.
J-20 fighters have flown with the 176 Brigade, a part of the airforce's China Flight Test Establishment, for approximately a year. It's unclearwhat unit of the PLAAF the J-20A is operational with.

Anything you have to put canards on (inmultiple areas) is junk, and those giant circular nozzles at the back aren'tvery stealthy either.

It's another copy from China. Americanframe with Made in China engines fly at your own risk.

Let's just hope the knock-off isn't betterthan the original made by the U.S.A.

when i was 16 in 1981, i built a model thatlooked exactly like the j-20. I took the body of an f-15 and glued f-16 wingsin the rear and made the tail stabilizers the front canards. I used f-18vertical stabilizers for the my models vertical stabilizers and slanted themlike the hornet. I used alot of model glues to mold the wings and stabilizerson and sanded it down. i painted my model black and silver. Planes didn'treally have canards back then as I recall, I may have seen one on a plane inAviation Week and Space Technology, which I used reed back then. Eventually Iwanted to test to see of the plane was aerodynamic and I mounted it in fronthood of my Chrysler Laser. I probably should have done abetter job of mountingit more securely as the first time I drove it down the street at 40 miles anhour, I saw it detach from the hood and do a inside loop and I saw it crash onthe road in my rear view mirror. It broke into pieces, but from what I observedof the inside loop, it was a perfect one considering it had no controlsurfaces. But the plane I built looks almost like the J-20, strange but true

LOL

Completely wrong. China exports junk to alland we keep buying it. Talk about huge profit with job security while drainingthe worlds resources slowly. They keep and design high quality items fordomestic use.
