Do Japanese people think they look like Chinese/Korean people or more close to Mongolian people?

Japanese is closer to Korea/Mongolian/Manchu than Han Chinese.  You should not put Han and Korean into one group,Korea /Manchu/ Mongolia should be put into one group.
1.Korean's blood relationship is closer to Mongolian than Han,both have a big and flat face, less beauty, causing a booming cosmetology in Korea."Archaeological evidence suggests proto-Koreans were migrants from south-central Siberia."   from Koreans in Wikipedia.
2.  There is no  agreement on how Japanese originated, but it was sure  there was a migration form China/Korean/Mongolia to Japan,I guess Japanese have more blood of Korea/Mongolia/Manchu than blood of  Han Chinese.
"Immigrants from the northern route (北方ルート in Japanese) including the people from the Korean Peninsula, Mainland China,Sakhalin Island, Mongolia, and Siberia.  from  Japanese people  in wikipedia.
3.  Current  people in north east China mostly are Han Chinese, Manchu only occupy a small percentage.

I have no dog in this fight, unlike others of Asian ethnicity, who may have their own preferences.  I have spent considerable time in all 4 countries, and it seems to be kind of a touchy issue for most.  Nobody wants to be compared to anyone, or even draw attention to any kind of common ancestry.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but there is a lot of emphasis put on presentation and appearance in that part of the world.  I've had Koreans insist they could tell at a glance if a pop star was Chinese, Japanese, or Korean, despite plastic surgery or makeup.  And the same for the other countries. There are heavily ingrained stereotypes and prejudices about what each ethnicity should look like, and people are quite touchy about being considered to have a 'big face' or long torso or short legs, for example.
In my opinion, there are a lot more similarities than differences between the ethnicities, and given their long history together, I doubt that it's very easy to find anyone of such pure blood as many people claim to have.  I've known many Japanese with more stereotypically Chinese facial traits, for example, or Chinese who clearly show the influence of Mongolians in their body type, or Koreans who could easily pass for Japanese.  But if you suggest that people look quite individual and there is no distinct national "type", prepare to be shouted down by quotations of long, rich bloodlines, in-no-way-tampered-with records, and obvious-to-Asians differences.  There's simply no overcoming ethnic pride for some.

If you are just saying, what the Japanese (the Japanese in Japan and never been out of Japan) think. They probably won't really get what you are asking since for them any asian look alike them are all Japanese.
They can't really tell the difference between asians unless you are from India or Middle East with figures of big eyes and tall nose. I have many friends from Korea, China, Taiwan, Mongolia, Hong Kong etc. Whenever we encounter the Japanese (mostly in Japan), they alway didn't recognize that my friends are not from Japan until they speak.

4.Miso Nanumi
I'm no Japanese, but I can tell you my Japanese friends were quite offended when people mistook them for Chinese.

OP - interesting you didn’t get any answers from actual Japanese. I think that’s what you were looking for, but Japanese don’t want to think about Chinese/Koreans, so they’ve failed to respond.
As a Chinese person born in the US, I completely look up to Japanese and Korean. It’s a compliment if I’m mistaken for Japanese or Korean. But they look down on my people, and therefore, they look down on me. Unfair, isn’t it? I was happy when an owner of a Japanese store in the US spoke to me in Japanese, thinking I was Japanese. When I said I was Chinese, she didn’t say anything more because they look down on Chinese.
Any East Asian person will be mistaken for “one of them” in any East Asian country they visit. If you're Chinese and you go to Korea, people will think you’re Korean. Tell them you’re Chinese, and their attitude will change - they’ll go from welcoming to disgusted. If the Japanese learn that you’re Chinese, they’ll be even more disgusted.
I’m very happy and comfortable in my local Japantown in the US. There are tons of Chinese and Taiwanese at Japantown - much more than actual Japanese. The Japanese are a minority group of Asians in the US. They’re the most lauded, “superior” Asians, but they’re a fairly small group in the US compared to Chinese, Filipinos, Korean, and Vietnamese - in most areas, at least. Small number (Japanese Americans) - superior and shiny, like the only BMW in the parking lot. Large numbers (Chinese Americans) - an inferior mass you don’t want infesting your space, like rats in a public square.
I used to think all East Asians were in it together - Asian Americans united in their struggle for equality and respect. However, increasingly, Asian Americans are subject to a terrible hierarchy. Japanese are at the top, with Koreans being at the top for Hallyu/Ullzang fans. As much as I like befriending, dating, and interacting with my fellow East Asians - they really don’t care for me.
It’s much more complicated because I’m Taiwan Chinese - so I have none of the crudeness, rudeness, or backwards culture associated, wrongly, with Mainland China. But I’m still lumped into the Mainland stereotypes, though I’m three generations away from it. As a Taiwan Chinese American, I do look up to Japan, as Taiwan types tend to do. Japan is aspirational, a unicorn, shimmering starlight, something you desperately want and desire. No such love back, though - just disgust, and stereotypes. There’s really no unity among Asian Americans - Japanese Americans want to separate and distance themselves from the “inferior” Chinese Americans. There’s not much distinguishing between Taiwanese-Chinese and actual Chinese, so I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place. I’m culturally more Taiwanese American, but lumped in with the “inferior” Mainland Chinese. Which aren’t inferior at all - just constantly subject to double standards, sensationalistic news, and a completely undeserved terrible reputation.
I’ve said it many times, and I’ll say it again: A French/Icelandic/Japanese person or company can do something much worse, but will be forgiven and continued to be liked - while a Chinese person or entity can do something much better, but still be dismissed and dued.

6.Hide Izumi, lived in Japan
There are Japanese that look Chinese, Korean and even Indonesian. My wife (Japanese) gets mistaken for South East Asian all the time. This makes sense because Japan is on the convergence point of several different migratory stream of people, including genetics from all of the above.
Izumi

7.Iwasaki Alex, born in Japan - Hakodate, now in Austria - Linz
I would say we do look nothing like mongolians. Some Japanese look similar to koreans, some others to chinese, but majority looks unique Japanese. There are also some Japanese that look southern asian and indonesian/polynesian.

7.Iwasaki Alex,

8.Zhuang Yan, A China citizen
It is the other way around. The East Asian people who look most similar with Mongolians are Koreans. Because Koreans' ancestors are North Asian hunting/Nomadic groups. This means Koreans may share common ancestor with Mongolians.Japanese is the mixture of North Asian hunting groups and Pacific islanders.
My answer may be boring and complicated. So a simple way to describe the situation:
Chinese are "Tibetans".
Koreans are "Mongolians".
Japanese are mixture of Koreans and "Indonesians".
LOL. I don't know if you get my point.

9.Will Lee, Frequent traveler to Beijing, will stay there for a few months with every trip.
Koreans originally migrated from Mongolia through Northeastern China to Korea.
I don't agree that Northeastern Chinese Chinese look like Japanese, not at all.
can have very varied looks, due to the intermarriage between the yamato and ainu groups.

Most Japanese cannot even tell apart some South East Asian from natives. IMO, Japanese are mixtures of Chinese, Korean, SEA, so it's clearly we don't have connection to Mongolians.
I know some Koreans like blabbering they are related to Mongols then Japanese must related to Mongols too but Japanese are not directly influenced by Mongol genes. All we have in common are thru third-party: Korea.
This is how Japanese looks
Mongol looks
