President Donald Trump’s administration approved the license necessary for American firms to sell Taiwan the technology needed to build its own submarines, while Trump continued his apparent trade war with China.

特朗普政府审批了美国企业向台湾出售潜艇技术所需要的许可证，这种技术可以帮助台湾建造自己的潜艇。同时，特朗普还明确地继续着他与中国的贸易战。

Realistically, there's no way Taiwan would gain independence. The only possible game-changing outcome would be that China absorbs Taiwan after becoming much more open in the far future.

What you call "right" is actually a huge face losing issue for China, and as China grows bigger and bigger, they would only make things more difficult for Taiwan in order to keep up their strong front.

The issue with Taiwan is that they dont just claim to be an independent state, they actually claim to be the legitimate government of all of China. There's no way that China will accept them as long as they claim that.

The US has had a long standing "policy of ambiguity" towards Taiwan for strategic reasons. The strategic benefit of supporting Taiwan militarily is objectively less than the costs of pissing off China. This is a stupid "Art of the Deal" tactic Trump is hoping will help in his trade war with China.

It's not that nobody wants to sell to Philippines, it's that Philippines isn't willing to bear the costs of purchasing a submarine fleet. It is a cost problem.

The Philippines military faces bigger issues in basic capabilities (there are much more important things to purchase). If a guy can't afford an electric fan, he shouldn't be talking about an air conditioner.
