The head of U.S. Fleet Forces Command told lawmakers that China has become powerful enough to enforce its vast territorial claims across the disputed South China Sea and only an armed conflict would be able to stop this.

"Once occupied, China will be able to extend its influence thousands of miles to the south and project power deep into Oceania. The PLA will be able to use these bases to challenge U.S. presence in the region, and any forces deployed to the islands would easily overwhelm the military forces of any other South China Sea-claimants," Davidson wrote.

"In short, China is now capable of controlling the South China Sea in all scenarios short of war with the United States," he added.

As china expands its sphere I hope issues with japan and Taiwan don't boil over. Only more problems on the horizon with advancements in military tech and surveillance as well as climate change exacerbating existing issues in SEA and worldwide. Having a trade war is no way to calm prospects of conflicts what solutions will we have? It looks like our only hope is that technologies for agriculture and travel advances enough to keep everyone happy... but if they dont?

There's a fine line between conflict with China to preserve our sovereignty and conflict with China to preserve US hegemony. The dangerous thing about the US is that they can't perceive that line at all.

为了维护我们的主权跟中国起冲突和为了维护美国的霸权跟中国起冲突，这两件事截然不同。美国现在危险的问题是他们不能察觉到这两者的界限。

Becoming Chinese vassal states is a Bad End. It has all of America's worst traits (both believe it's their natural place to be at the centre of the world, neither has a philosophical off ramp for their imperialist impulses), with none of its upside. But trusting our fate to American foreign policy, which is made from an American perspective, to satisfy American citizens, and with American goals in mind, is pure foolishness.

成为中国的附属国不是一个好结局。中国具有所有美国最坏的特点（都认为他们天生就将成为世界中心，也从来没有偏离过他们的帝国主义野心），中国控制南海的话，我们没有任何好处。但是，把我们的命运交托给美国的外交政策，从美国的角度来制定的外交政策，来满足美国公民，来考虑美国的目标，这纯粹就是愚蠢。

If we leave everything up to them its is highly likely that we'll see military conflict with China before the half way point of this century. Look at their behaviour during the "American Century" and how they justified it at the time.

如果我们事事都听美国的，那在本世纪中期之前我们极有可能会跟中国兵戎相见。看看美国人的在“美国世纪”的所作所为，还有他们当时是怎么给自己找借口的吧。
