Almost a week after the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader was elected, netizens of mainland China launched a Facebook campaign to counter the pro-Taiwan independence sentiments shared on social media.

在民进党领袖蔡英文当选后差不多一周的时间里，中国大陆的网民们在Facebook上发起了一轮针对社交媒体上传递的台独情绪的反击。

As of Thursday morning, Facebook users had flooded Ms. Tsai’s Facebook page with more than 40,000 comments. Foreign sites including Facebook, Twitter, Google, and others are blocked in mainland China. But users found ways to surpass the Great Firewall, the country’s vast network of censors and spying technology used to control Internet traffic, through VPN software.

Paid Pro-China propaganda used to be from the 50 centers. Then it was students being paid by their universities. The latest in lucrative loyalty is Sesame Credit points. Soon folks in China will be able to get lovely credit rating points for drowning out Taiwan and Tiananmen Square discussion (and of course lose points for saying 'disloyal' things about the state. Or even being friends with such people). Earn enough and they might even be able to earn a Visa for entry to an actual, free country!

Misery loves company. Chinese pundits have to sneak past their own country's censorship apparatus to urge the Taiwanese to abandon their right to self-determination and submit to Chinese oppression. But actually, it is questionable if those Chinese pundits are really private citizens or not. The Chinese government relies heavily on deception.

Christian Science Monitoring is a political tool of Washington. It is neither Christian, nor Scientific.

The only thing this story illustrates is the desperate nature of western propaganda. What is the point of cherry picking a few random quotes from some people who want to post hostility? Are these official messages? If so, then perhaps this same "journalist" should also write a story about how racism and eventual race/class riots are the fundamental atmosphere of the US. There is no shortage of such messages on these boards. To try and make a story out of it is literally the same type of message that spurred the (very few) selected quotes that this story tries to imply as being endemic. Most people have better things to do. Some don't. Sadly, some "journalists" stoop even lower.
