My sister is a professor and Obama came to speak at her school (FIU).

我姐姐是一名教授，奥巴马曾经去过她们学校演讲。

Anyway my sister invited me and we had really good seats but we had to get there hours early since people sitting that close are screened by the secret service.

So we were in our seats for an hour or two before the event, and one of the secret service guys was stationed standing right next to us. Eventually we started making small talk and eventually my sister asked what Obama is really like. We thought we would get a bland answer but the secret service guy lit up and actually got excited talking about Obama. He said “You know how the image of Obama is this cool guy who is genuinely friendly? Well in reali life he is 10x friendlier and 100x cooler than that.”

He pulled out his phone and started showing us a bunch of pictures of Obama just being like a normal person with him (the agent) and his family, clowning around or just hanging out. Like one picture was Obama playing a cards and drinking a beer and laughing with the secret service agent in a hotel room. One was of Obama and the guy’s son, Obama was showing his son the correct form for free throw shots. He said Obama likes to have someone to talk to when he works out so he would always invite off-duty agents and stuff to just shoot the shit with him while he ran on the treadmill. It was pretty interesting.

What a lot of people do not understand is that these presidents are still regular people that just happen to have held a job requiring them to make difficult choices and balance what it is they want to accomplish versus what it is politics allows them to accomplish.

I disagreed with a lot of Obama's actions in office as much as I disagreed with Dubya and Clinton's decisions but I would be more than ecstatic to sit down and just have a beer with each of them. Sadly I cannot say that about the current president whom I find politically odious and intellectually bereft.
