China’s People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) will start receiving its first Sukhoi Su-35 Flanker-E fighters from Russia later this year.

The F35 was built as a mix of everything and that is why it is good at nothing. Bascially if it is a warm day outside.. It can't even take off. Lol. Christ! Where do you people come from?!?
The F-35 with a full internal combat load can go mach 1.2 for over 150+ miles! It's combat ceiling is 50,000 feet! Any pilot not wearing a pressure suit that flies higher than 50,000 feet is going to have problems.
And a SU-35 with a combat load and pylons will not go mach 1 without using its afterburners. Same goes for every 4th gen fighter.

The author doesn't understand modern air-to-air fighter combat. F-35 by virtue of its stealth and sensors - combined with Gen III "look and shoot" helmet and high off-boresight weapons like AIM-120 and AIM-9 will be as deadly as F-22 is to Su-35 - - maybe moreso because F-35 is said to have a smaller radar cross section (RCS).
Does Mr. Majumar think that dogfighting is what it used to be? Get on an opponent's tail (*six") and fire? Not today! 80% of aerial kills in the last few decades have been conducted using missiles at BVR. Modern missiles don't need to be fired from behind an opponent, and can lock-on at very LR distances. Do you expect Russia to buy superior US jets? It will build the best it could to save face. It will steal/borrow some ideas from western jets, employ hype, and then sell to countries that are willing to buy. It will be a waste because they will never be used anyway, unless Turkey shoots them down again with F-16s.

The timing of the delivery suggest having a few SU 35's to give any belligerent incoming POTUS pause in making aggressive actions against China in the SCS and ECS.
Further, these new SU 35's will escort Japanese F15 out of Diaoyu/Senkaku if she get too aggressive, plus of course to keep an eye on Vietnam to keep her jets out of Chinese islands airspace in the SCS.
