"The United States of America is the most powerful nation on Earth. Period," President Obama said in his eighth and final State of the Union address.

Sequestration is immediate and indiscriminate budget cuts across-the-board that implement every portion of the military equally.

The problems of sequestration, according to Gates, are twofold.

Firstly, it increases uncertainty within the military.

"I think a big part of the problem is the lack of predictability in terms of the resources that the military is going to have," Gates told Business Insider.

The second major problem of sequestration is that the process does not take into account the quality of what is being defunded.

"Sequestration has been a disaster for the military. It is the worst kind of budget cutting because it basically cuts everything at the same percentage," Gates said.

American military today reminds me of the Imperial Japanese Navy of 1941. The IJN were superbly trained, armed and sharp. Their carriers tactics were advanced and their pilots superb. But they were not able to win the war of attrition. It took them too long to build new ships, trained new men , and lacked the manpower reserves of the United States Navy Due to their limitation, they were unable to adjust and adapt as US Navy did and this was how we won.. Now our military is facing the same fate. The forces we have now, is great and powerful but its not build for a sustain conflict nor a conflict that will cost us many lives. In the next war of attrition, we will lose and there will be a white flags coming from all the liberal strongholds across the nation. Food for thought?

I guess I would agree with Gates, except for one thing, known by all. The military is not very good at money management, or as former Defense Secretary McNamara put it, we need to get the "biggest bang for the buck." The military services fall over backwards in trying to get every 4 -star's wish list on new-fangled weapon systems that are often "pie in the sky" and fret with cost overruns and less-than desired performance characteristics. The F-35 is supposed to be the answer for every type of tactical threat - all-weather air force and navy fighter that also does close air-ground support. Does neither that well. Doesn't even come close to outperforming the A-10 Warthog, which surprisingly the Air Force has been trying to get rid of for years. So, when the military starts getting some smarts in how it spends borrowed money from China that future taxpayers (who aren't even born yet) will have to pay off, I can't say that sequestration is the real evil here.

EASY TO SAY when it's not your money. A high school kid will tell you that if you don't have across the board cuts of say 10% in 10 different areas, and you pick and choose, then everyone wants to be exempted. If 4 items remain the same and 3 only get a 5% cut, the other three segments will have to bear the brunt of the cuts of the remaining 85% rendering them virtually ineffective. All these elected officials talk like the spoilt wife of a millionaire getting divorced.
" But I am used to the life style and can't live on less than $3 million a year" If America can be the strongest by spending 8 times more than the next strongest, they will still be the strongest by spending 6 times more. It's all about entitlement at the taxpayer's expense while the country goes deeper in debt.

America is the top country in military spending in the world,and it has being so for decades.Many countries also depend on her for miltary arms.Thus they also help in funding of her military arms development,by buying all these hardwares.After having said this,it is natural for the State to have the most well trained army,and alot depend on their trainings.With nuclear arms,it has neutralised many of these advantages.It is also true that no country will want to attack the State,but then does the State dare to attack other nuclear countries?This is why I think that what Obama is talking,is nothing but hot air.Why then he ever bother to say it?

The defense secretary is absolutely correct. I spent most of my adult life as a leader in the military. Nothing has been more detrimental to the United States military than attacks by our congress and Presidents Carter, Clinton and Obama. They were and are the greatest threats to our national security but congress must also shoulder much of the blame.

That's what happens when Republicans turn traitor and sign a pledge of allegiance to that Muslim Grover Norquist. I don't know who he and his think tank are really an agent for, but he's doing his best to destroy the US military.
