The United States is entering a new era of great power competition facing off against a resurgent Russia and a reemerging China. As such, the United States has to prioritize its defense spending to meet those rising challenges—which Washington will start to do with President Barack Obama’s 2017 budget proposal, announced this week.

The United States won’t just face off against Russia and China in the air, on land or at sea. Washington will also have to confront Moscow and Beijing in the emerging cyberspace and electronic warfare domains.

Do you think this overreach or ambition will be helped by the budget crisis?
Do you think the Pentagon will get this extra money to spend?
I suppose it can come from social security. Might even make more people join the armed forces out of neccessity rather than a career choice.
What this does reveal is that the US wants to prepare for a war with china and russia. It believes that war is quite imminent. It still wants to win a war against them with shock and awe preferably.

Merlion, What this reveals is, that the U.S. intends to provoke a war with China, (the militarily weaker of the two) knowing that China has no long range bombers, & very few ICBM's capable of reaching the U.S. , China only has defensive short range armaments & not very many of those, plus China has some economic dependence on the U.S. & no desire for war. China is the U.S.'s target, it has no sting.

Let's take a real-time looksy. Now we have a pig in a poke, a bankrupt state on IMF life-support in perpetuity, carpetbagger 'managers' abandoning ship right and left over a corruption worse than under the evicted president and a state hell-bent on dragging us into WWIII over their refusal to abide by Minsk II and a Europe that's a hop, skip and a jump away from labeling US the rogue state of the century.
