The Bohai Strait Tunnel or Dalian-YantaiTunnel project proposes the construction of an underwater tunnel to connectDalian on the Liaodong Peninsula to Yantai on the Shandong Peninsula. Anothername for the project is Cross-Bohai-Strait channel.

渤海海峡隧道,或称为大连-烟台海底隧道计划,该计划把辽东半岛与山东半岛联接起来。此项目又名跨渤海海峡隧道。

Crossing the Bohai Strait the tunnel wouldbe 123 kilometers (76 mi) long, 90 kilometers (56 mi) of it under water. Thiswould exceed the combined lengths of the two longest undersea tunnels on Earth,the Seikan Tunnel and the Channel tunnel.

跨渤海海峡隧道全长123公里,其中近90公里在海面以下。该隧道长度将超过青函隧道与英吉利海底隧道的总和,而成为世界上最长的海底隧道。(注,青函隧道,日本青森-函馆海底隧道,约54公里;英吉利海底隧道约50.5公里)

The planned high speed railway wouldtraverse Bohai Bay, connecting Dalian in the south of Liaoning province withthe Shandong province city of Yantai. "It will reduce travel time acrossBohai Bay to a mere 40 minutes," Wang commented.

At present, a ferry ride across the baytakes about eight hours, while travelling between the two cities by vehiclemeans covering 1,400 kilometers of coastal roads.

With the two Diomede Islands between thepeninsulas, the Bering Strait could be spanned by three bridges. Two longbridges, each almost 40 kilometers (25 mi) long, would connect the mainland oneach side to one island, and a third much shorter one between the two islands.

Hey dipsheet it's not the 1990s anymore.Wake the eff up and go to youtube or google and look up the infrastructure inChina.
China has built up infrastructure based onall the experiences of the world during the whole of the 20th Century while theUnited States has massive infrastructure that was built in the early part ofthe 1900s and is now due for complete rebuilding and we don't have the funds todo it.
THAT is why everyone is saying the theUnited States is in deep sheet.

整个20世纪,中国凭着全球经验进行建设基建,而美国大量的基础设施全都是20世纪前的建的,早该重建了,可我们却没钱了去建了。
这就是为什么每个人都在说美国衰落的原因。

For a heavily populated and industrializedarea like the Yellow Sea it makes sense, because the hefty investment will berecovered in a reasonable time.
But for a sparsely populated area withrelatively low cross-continental traffic like the Bering strait? not so sure.Do we want to ship that many containers by land? isn't a big boat cheapernowadays?
