China's trade surplus with the United States widened to a record $31 billion in August as exports surged despite American tariff hikes, potentially adding fuel to President Donald Trump's battle with Beijing over industrial policy.

if you cannot win on decent grounds, win by other means like tariffs. tell your population do not work but rely on social benefits. China and the rest of Asia, South Americans work. in the States, there are too much restrictions on employers, workers rights etc and all other restraints and restrictions. Human rights ? when some populations cannot even feed themselves?

This story is unbelievably misleading. The reason the trade surplus with China is up, according to Bloomberg, is because a whole bunch of companies over-ordered Chinese products BEFORE the tariffs took effect, to avoid them. That's why the surplus grew. NOT because China is winning. Unbelievable.
