I think the key thing being Libya here, which in Ghaddafi times held back mass immigration quite significantly. I know the French were very eager to dispose of him, and the Americans at least assisted strongly, but I'm a bit unknowledgeable about the British role in that endeavour

No, it‘s not.
Well, Africa does need investment and the Chinese provide infrastructure etc. Africa is lacking and needing. So from a purely financial POV you are right.
But what Africa also needs are democracy, peace and social development: stuff like top notch universities, social mobility, investments in remote regions. I highly doubt the Chinese are interested in investing in any of it. On contrary: to secure their investment and their long term strategy they will prefer stable (semi-) authoritarian governments to true democracy, they will help to suppress any opposition to the status quo. So we are heading to Colonialism 2.0.
Since it didn‘t play out fine the first time I‘m afraid China‘s investment in Africa won‘t hardly solve any of the real problems of Africa.

Not at all. I would rather see a few more thousand migrants than China at our doorstep. China is a clear and present threat to the free world, arguably far more than Russia. Indeed without China Russia may already have caved in after sanctions. China is an imperialist power working hard on creating practically puppet regimes, not just in Asia or Africa, but also places like Europe. Montenegro for example has fallen into China's debt trap and we can't be certain where that will lead.
If you're unfamiliar with the CCPs activities, I recommend China Uncensored, but I think you should take it with a grain of salt. It exposes a lot that Chinese state media would never tell you (in an easily digestible form), but it may also omit facts for its anti-China rhetoric.

Europe needs to stop seeing Africa as a threat and start seeing it as an opportunity for mutual flourishing. China of course has predominantly its own interests at heart, but they have already done this.
Instead of thinking about Africa in terms of a miserable continent of people that will flee from poverty and war to Europe, we ought to look at it as a continent, that with genuine support, can become one of Europe's largest partners in the decades to come with a substantial chance to develop a middle class. This is already happening in regions of Afria, especially the West which is seeing vast positive changes in the economic and political spheres.
For this to continue there needs to be a coherent European effort to invest in Africa and especially develop political institutions that can sustain growth. If the population on the African continent becomes more prosperous, this will benefit Europe.
It is especially important to not just leave this to China, because China has no interest in democracy. They have an important economic role to play, but certainly Africa would be better off with European support as well.

欧洲不应该继续视非洲为威胁，而应该视其为相互发展的机会。当然，中国主要考虑自己的利益，但是中国已经在这么做了。
