The biggest problems I have with learning Chinese is that many Chinese are too polite to correct you when you have misspoken and many prefer to speak English rather than let you try Chinese.

我学中文时最大的问题就是,许多中国人过于礼貌以至于在你讲错时不会纠正你,并且他们(指中国人)中许多人更喜欢和你讲英语而不是让你去尝试说中文。

Pendantic opinions are a hazard in learning any language. I see that in teaching ESL teachers all the time.

卖弄学问在学习任何一门语言的过程中都是种危害。我在教ESL老师们的时候总是遇到这种行径。

Nah that’s not true. Doing a masters in MTESOL with a lot of linguistics courses. The people you’re talking to have a limited exposure to Chinese outside of their area and see theirs as correct because in their context it is. So sure in terms of standard mandarin you may be right but at the end of the day the prescxtive rules you’re imposing on them may not actually be used in their dialect

不,那不是真的。在读对外英语教学硕士,有上很多语言学方面的课程。你谈论的那些人在他们所在的地区以外跟中国人的接触有限,并且认为自己是正确的,因为在他们的语境背景中是那样。因此,就中国普通话标准而言你可能是正确的,但到头来,你正强加给他们的语用规则可能实际上在他们的方言中并没有使用。

yeah but they're only correcting him because he's a foreigner. they wouldn't correct a chinese person from a different province.

是的,但他们只会因他是个外国人而纠正他。他们可不会去纠正一个来自外省的中国人。

Right and I would correct a person using bavarian dialect if I did not recognize it or thought it wasn't conductive to the learners goal of being able to communicate clearly with the average German.

是的,如果我不能认出它是哪种方言,或者我认为它不利于那些以与普通德国民众清楚沟通为目标的学习者,那么我会纠正一个用巴伐利亚方言(德语方言)的人。

[abruptly screamed at]
She wasn't screaming there mate that is just how people in Beijing talk to one another.

[突然对我大吼.....]
她那不是在大吼大叫,这只是北京人之间的说话方式。

good friend of mine just went to beijing to visit and she said when she asked someone for directions they started yelling! Lol I told her thats just how the beijing people are

我好朋友刚从北京旅游回来,她说,当她向人们问路时,他们就开始大吼大叫!哈哈,我告诉她北京人就是这样的。

Lived in Beijing for two years. Got screamed at mate.

在北京生活了两年。哥们,对这种大吼的说话方式都麻木了。

WhereTheHotWaterAt 1 point·22 hours ago
Some people in Beijing legit don't know how to talk without yelling. I wish I was kidding but it's super common place most people just don't have the habit to talk in a low voice because of the constant noise levels

北京有些人真的不知道在不大吼大叫的情况下说话的方式,我希望我是在开玩笑,但这是种很普遍的情况,因为周遭持续不断发出的噪音,大多数人根本没有低声说话的习惯。

I found the same when I was in Spain and the same when I was in France. However many of the French people in the countryside were happy to help and were not rude at all. Paris was awful though. Germany was pretty good too but I was there back when there was still an east and west :)

我在西班牙和法国的时候也发现了同样的情况。然而,许多在农村的法国人却很乐意帮忙,而且一点也不粗鲁。巴黎的情况则很糟糕。德国也很不错,但我在那里时,德国还分东德和西德(并未合并)。:)

Funny story. I had only been in China for about a month and I took a taxi this was in Xian The taxi driver had a little statue of Osama Bin Laden on his dash board. As he was driving he slowly moved his hand up to the dash board and took down the statue. Guess my RMB trumped no pun intended any anti-western feelings he had. :)

讲个有趣的事。我在中国的西安只待了一个月,我搭出租车的时候,司机在他的仪表板上放了一个奥萨马·本拉·登的小雕像。当他在开车的时候,他慢慢地把他的手移到仪表板上,然后把雕像取下来。我猜我手中的人民币胜过(没有双关的意思)他有的任何反西方的情感。
(译注:trump除了本身表“胜过、王牌”的意思,还指美国总统特朗普,所有才有双关之说)

Flashcards like Anki are great for improving vocabulary.

像Anki(记忆软件)这样的抽认卡对提高词汇量很有帮助。

gaoshan Cyprus 7 points·1 day ago
I know someone that has only used flashcards. They sound something like "Wah3 yao3 young3 tzihsuwah3. Tzisuwah2 zhai3 na2 lee2?" Literally every question ends in an exaggerated second tone.

我知道有些人只用抽认卡(学习中文)。他们说起话来像 "我(wǒ)要(yǎo)用(yǒng)tzihsuwah(ˇ)。Tzisuwah(ˊ)在(zǎi)哪(nǎ)里(lǐ)?"每个问句都会用很夸张的二声声调结尾。

Use Pleco then. You have to pay (it's like 5 bucks for life) and you can only save single words/idioms rather than full sentences but all you need to do is search for something and click the + button.

那就用Pleco呗。你需要付费(大概5美元就可终身使用),你可以只保存单词或习语而不用保存长句,你只要进行搜索然后点击+键就可以了。

You can also make full sentence cards and save the example sentences

你也可以弄个句子卡然后把例句保存下来。

Oh I didn't know. Too much hassle for me anyway.

啊,这我不知道。但总之我还是觉得太麻烦了。

ItsRainingRupees 3 points·23 hours ago
Oh I agree with that haha. I only use flash cards for memorizing vocabulary words for our quizzes.

噢,我也这么觉得,哈哈。我只用抽认卡来记忆小测要测的词汇。

Flashcards are great just make sure you have a flashcard for the tone writing reading meaning.

抽认卡很棒的,只不过你要确保卡上同时标有声调、写法、用法和意思。
